webmedic Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 I'm still curious how he got the the uxtheme.dll to work? Either he cracked the digital signature or? It's that or part that is interesting since I dont think he seriously cracked the digital sig. You know though I wonder if the digiatl sig can be faked somehow. Oh well htis will save me much much work trying to get the cd yanked during graphical install was killing me.
ceez Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 UXTHEME.dll, when hacked, allows you to use unsigned themes (like the ones that are default in WinXP), so all you have to do is unzip the theme to %systemroot%\Resources\Themes, then you can select it from the "Appearance" menu.So does this mean I can download themes from those other skinner 3rd party apps and use their skins without the apps. WindowsXP will be able to read and apply correctly?if so, interesting...once more!
Paul 365 Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 Tested under VirtualPC - Works first time.Thank you.Paul

Check www.ThemeXP.orgI don't think you can use the ones made for progs like WindowsBlinds or whatever it's called.
Bachus Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 I'm a little late on posting, but I agree that this hacked dll works flawlessly.
ssapeutfout Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 Ok, i'm the first to say it works great. But in fact i'm facing another connected problem...In my unattented Cd, on first boot in "useable" windows, theme service is disabled... I must enable or wait for a reboot to get my skin showing... why?
Aaron Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 hmm. The theme service is enabled by default. Check your registry tweaks file to see if you added a theme service disable key by accident, or you probably used a DefaultThemesOff = Yes in the [shell] section in winnt.sif
Thanatos Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 Like webmedic said, didi you crack the digital signiture so it can be used on the xp CD?
Paul 365 Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 Yes, it can be used on the cd with no problems.......so far
webmedic Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 yea it's the so far part. What if next wednesday after a full moon your computer blows up and aliens come out.
Geckotek Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 yea it's the so far part. What if next wednesday after a full moon your computer blows up and aliens come out.If you've got and Alienware PC, that might be normal. =P
Paul 365 Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 I just ran a beyond compare between the uxtheme.dll extrracted from this file and the one installed on my pc and patched in the normal!! way. There is a very small 2 character change, i dont now what that is but its so small i doubt there could be anything dodgy in it.
webmedic Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 thanks. Thats interesting that something that small would make the difference. Wonder who that guy is and were he came from.
