davidnsharpe Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Hi all,I have run out of usb ports on my new pc, and my pci slots are all full.I was wondering if there was such a usb hub that would fit into the 3.5'' space in the front of my pc, but i want to find one that would run off of a power cable inside the pc, not one that relies on another usb port to plug into. Can any of you guys help? Thanks in advance.
wickerwolf Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 (edited) Check out maplin they have loads in *find them on google* Edited September 10, 2006 by wickerwolf
Biohead Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I don't think there is - but if it doesn't plug into another USB port, how will it communicate with the PC if it only has a power cable?
ripken204 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....mp;N=2000010069so you would want something like a card reader ^^^ that plugs into the usb headers of ur mobo? but u dont need cards, u just need a bunch of usb ports?
bonestonne Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 unplug one item, get a USB HUB and plug in the hub. then plug in whatever you took out in the hub, and you have more ports.but honestly, my PC has 2 ports, somehow i manage to have one open. and if you look, i have a lot of hardware on this thing.
Andromeda43 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 There may be such an animal, but it's going to have to plug into a USB port "Somewhere".If you have one open on the Motherboard, you could use that, otherwise, just do what's already been said.Plug a hub into one of your existing ports and then plug all your remaining USB devices into the hub.Don't turn something so simple into something complicated. Keep it simple!Cheers mates!Andromeda43 B)
davidnsharpe Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 Thanks guys! When i was searching around in my house for something completely different, i came across a pci usb 2.0 hub, so i can take out the dial-up modem which i realise i don't need now i have broadband, and put that in instead Thanks again for your help.
Andromeda43 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Yes, you can, and if i'd known what you just said about the modem....I'd have suggested the same thing.I carry a five port USB / PCI card in my Kit all the time, just for that one customer who's flat run out of USB ports. It's a quick fix for the problem without having something hanging out of the PC.Good Going!Andromeda B)
LLXX Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I would've just suggested taking a standard external USB hub and making it 'internal' by putting it inside the case...
ripken204 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I would've just suggested taking a standard external USB hub and making it 'internal' by putting it inside the case... lol, why not. im just lucky that my mobo has 6 usb ports, although i only use 2 of them...
