ardi Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Yeah, another dumb question:My processor supports fsb 333 mHz. The Mobo supports memory of 400/333/266/200. Do I need to match the memory speed with the fsb?alsoDDR memory is specified in two ways, like PC3200 is 400, PC2700 is 333, etc. Are these just two ways of saying the same thing or is there a difference?(The board is an Abit VA-20. I'm planning to use an AMD Athlon processor and about 512 MB of memory. I just gotta get them to match up.)
ripken204 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 everything you said here is correct. as for that first question, it is recommended to have the cpu and ram running at the same mhz, but not necessary.
ardi Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Thanks ripken204. Hey, I used to live in Rochester! First in Webster (worked at Xerox) then on Sodus Bay. I loved the Bay, but when they asked me to transfer to San Diego, it was winter and I accepted B)
ripken204 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 ya the bay is nice, ive fished there alot. its defintetly the best place for bass in rochester!
puntoMX Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 About the RAM; CPU @ 333MHz with RAM @ 400MHz works fine, you will get a little more out of it altrough it´s just 1 to 3%, get CAS 2.5 if you can or even 2.0 if the price is almost the same .

puntoMX Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 On a KM400A chipset, I would like to see that with an Athlon XP , some Semprons(32) can do it I know but 40MHz for PCI bus could give problems on VIA chipsets...
