everything there seems to be pretty good, Only thing not worth getting is the X2 4200+ as they are a waste of money.

Either get the X2 3800+ save some money and overclock it, Or go one better and get the X2 4400+ which comes with the larger L2 cache. Alternatively a Opty 165 would be a very good option.

get some pc4000 ram instead, it will overclock better, if you want to do that. i would also recommend a dfi nf4 board, again only if you want to overclock. as scubar said an opteron would be nicer but it is more expensive, otherwise get the 3800x2 and just overclock it.

so why do the two of you suggest going iwth 3800+ and overclocking it instead of overclockign the 4200+? not much of a performance difference?

Posted

they are the same exact chip except that the 3800 at stock is just slower. thats the only difference. so if you overclock it to the 4200 speed then there you go. it even tends to overclock more than a 4200 does.

The Intel chips have been way over hyped. Intel has always relied on ATI for its graphics solutionsand now that AMD owns ATI and Intel has pulled the bus license, no more ati for them. Yes you could buy a Conroe and a X1900XT for now and it wiould be great no doubt, but 6 months time when Ati wont be any part of intel whats going to happen. Intel has stated they will start doing integrate graphics solutions themselves. So yes you could have a mighty new Intel chip but whats the point. 6months time you wont be able to upgrade you wont have any driver or bios updates. Your pretty much screwed. Not worth it if you ask me

Who gave you the information that Intel relied on ATI fro their graphics? Intel always had their in-house production for integrated graphics and never relied on any 3rd party for their graphics solution. Get your facts right!

Intel revoking the licenses from ATI has got nothing to do with graphics. Its to do with motherboard chipsets.

And finally tell me again why wont I be able to upgrade in 6 months time if.....

1) I have an Intel CPU

2) I have a mobo either with an Intel chipset or a Nvidia chipset. Either Intel or Nvidia will have the updates for their chipset and the actual motherboard manufacturer is the one who is going to release the BIOS updates.

3) Radeon X1900XTX card - ATI updates the Catalyst drivers every month.

This has got to be one of the most screwed up post I have seen in a long time.

big poppa pump- you gotta calm down there. flaming other memebers is not allowed. yes his facts may be completely wrong but just tell him that without all of the anger. but you are correct about the chipsets, thats the only thing that has changed with this amd-ati thing. intel can still use ati and nvidia video cards. and intel has had there own integrated video cards for a while now, a long while.
