hfslipped xp installation problem. ntfs.sys is corrupted

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have hfslipped my windows xp. However, after a while I pressed the spacebar to boot from cd rom, I've got the following error message.

The ntfs.sys is corrupted.

Press any key to continue.

I am quite sure my source ntfs.sys doesn't have any problem since I am able to install from the source cd without any problem.

I have also tried other source cd to hfslipped, but I still get the same error.

Anyone have any idea? Is it caused by i hfslipped it in a windows 2000 machine?

Thanks

P.S. HFSLIP.LOG and WU.TXT attached.

Double check your hotfixes to be sure that you are slipstreaming the correct hotfixes for the service pack level you are running. One thing that sticks out is that you are slipping a mediacenter edition hotfix.

Posted

The 916281 update is XPSP2.

You want the hotfix named IE6.0sp1-KB916281-Windows-2000-XP-x86-CHT.exe instead.

Also, the wu.txt is from a 2000 system, not an XP system. Rerun hfnetchk on the system that you installed the hfslipped XP on.

The 900325 is a Media center hotfix, and is aso english.

I was using the update list in

http://users.telenet.be/tc76/winup/_winxp.html

and I checked the list with my hf folder a few times already, everything is the same except I cannot get WindowsXP-KB896344-v2-x86-ENU.exe optional update. (It doesn't have a CHT version yet.)

The wu.txt is from a 2k system because I am running the hfslip in a 2k system. (I dont have a xp system.)

900325 doesn't have a CHT version so I get the Eng version.

I also tried to remove it from my hf folder, the same problem still occure.

The 916281 update is XPSP2.

As I stated, the list I got included 916281 update. However, I tried to get the IE6.0sp1-KB916281-Windows-2000-XP-x86-CHT.exe hotfix instead of the 916281 update, everything is the same. :blushing:

Thanks everyone :)

@Tomcat, two things regarding the above problem. (1) Slipstreaming a CHT system shows up as "XP SP1 Traditional" instead of "XP SP1 Chinese Traditional". Is this intentional? (2) ctpooon (above) seems to have slipstreamed SP2 using HFSLIP (WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-CHT.exe). However, HFSLIP does not appear to have recognized this. Could this have to do with the ntfs.sys error or is that a whole other problem?

@ctpooon, you are not paying attention to directions very well! You are slipstreaming XP SP1. If you use Tomcat's list, you MUST check the "Service Pack 1a" box.

900325 doesn't have a CHT version so I get the Eng version.

I also tried to remove it from my hf folder, the same problem still occure.

If you read the_guy's post above, as well as the directions on Tomcat's page, KB900325 is for XP Media Center Edition. You do not need it for your OS! If you want to include the Windows Media Player 9/10 codecs, you need to extract wmfdist95.exe out of the KB900325 hotfix.
The wu.txt is from a 2k system because I am running the hfslip in a 2k system. (I dont have a xp system.)
Do not worry about this. This is only if you successfully installed the HFSLIPed system.

Generally, I would not recommend including updates for two different languages. Sometimes, this messes up the OS.

Now, please don't come back here until you sort out your hotfixes (as above). HFSLIP is not for people who don't read simple directions.

Ooh.

If you slipstreamed SP2, then disregard the following, ctpooon:

The 916281 update is XPSP2.

You want the hotfix named IE6.0sp1-KB916281-Windows-2000-XP-x86-CHT.exe instead.

You want the file for 916281 that you already had.

If the intention is to slipstream SP2 then you need the hotfixes for SP2. ctpooon got that right.

@ctpooon...

My hotfix list doesn't ask to place the following files in the HF folder:

msxml2sp6-kb887606-x86-cht.exe

WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB900325-usa.exe

I don't mention the XML2 update at all, and you should extract wmfdist95.exe from the KB900325 update per the instructions on my page.

What's strange is that the service pack didn't slipstream and that the localization seems to be represented wrongly in HFSLIP.LOG (it should be "Traditional Chinese" and not "Traditional"). Check this:

1) Are you running HFSLIP from a Windows account that has Administrative privileges?

2) Did you get a warning message from HFSLIP that your source is not a clean source?

3) Did you get a warning message that you cannot slipstream Windows Update Agent?

4) Go to E:\hfslip\xp\SOURCE\I386 and open PRODSPEC.INI in Notepad (by double-clicking it). Scroll down and let me know what it says next to "Localization=".

I am trying to slipstreaming my source to xp sp2, then, I should check the "Service Pack 2" box rather than "Service Pack 1a", right?

I have removed KB900325 from my HF folder, I still got the same error.

My hotfix list doesn't ask to place the following files in the HF folder:

msxml2sp6-kb887606-x86-cht.exe

WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB900325-usa.exe

Removed the media center and I replaced the msxml2sp6 to msxml4sp2-kb887606-x86-cht.exe. Still got the same error.

I don't mention the XML2 update at all, and you should extract wmfdist95.exe from the KB900325 update per the instructions on my page.

When I click the

MSXML 4.0 SP2 Other languages (msxml.msi) + latest binary update in the same language box,

it shows me msxml.msi and msxml4sp2-kb887606-x86-enu.exe

I am runing HFSLIP in a Traditional Chinese windows 2000 machine with an account with Admin privileges.

The HFSLIP didn't warn me about my source is not clean and cannot slipstream Windows Update Agent.

Here is the string you are looking for - Localization=Traditional Chinese

By the way, the source is already slipstream to sp2 before I ran hfslip. However, I put the WindowsXP-KB916281-x86-CHT.exe in my HF folder because I've got a error just after entering the gui installation screen(something says root structure damaged). So I want to use hfslip slimstream the sp2 again to see if it fix the error.

hi ctpooon! if your source is already SP2, then there would be no need to slipstream again SP2 ;)

XML2 is different from XML4, but OK. This isn't important now.

If HFSLIP detects that a source is already slipstreamed, it will ignore the service pack installer and just proceed with other things. Since HFSLIP detects your source as "SP1" and it is not updated by HFSLIP, it can only mean two things:

- something went wrong when you slipstreamed SP2

- you do not include the required CD tag file WIN51.SP2 (automatically created when slipstreaming SP2)

HFSLIP itself uses the CD tag to determine the service pack level, but the script part that actually *does* the slipstreaming uses the name of the newest SP*.CAB file inside SOURCE\I386. My guess is that you don't have WIN51.SP2, but you do have SP2.CAB.

If you want HFSLIP to slipstream SP2 again, you need to put the original Windows XP source or Windows XP with SP1 inside the SOURCE folder -- not Windows XP with SP2.

Thanks for the other info. I'll update HFSLIP to see if I can fix the "Traditional Chinese" problem.

ctpooon...

Do you mind trying the latest test release? It handles hotfixes a bit differently and I also added a possible fix for your "Traditional" problem. Just place the CMD in your current HFSLIP working folder. You don't need to create a new HFSLIP folder and copy everything over.

The ntfs and Traditional problems have been fixed by using the lastest hfslip.

However, I've got a new problem. After the text installation screen, the machine reboots, then it enters the GUI installation screen. It shows a light blue screen for a while as usual, then the GUI installation screen start. Then it pop up an error says "internal installation data structure has been damaged." (which I translate it from chinese from its meaning). I tried to hfslip it again, still the same problem :(

hsflip.log attached.

Thanks :)

What I'm thinking the problem is now is that the cabs are English.

The only one that looks like a problem is the LegitCheckControl.cab file.

What you could do is get the download link from MU in WindowsUpdate.log on a running XP system (search for 892130 and choose the link), then put that file into your HF folder and remove LegitCheckControl.

Heh... The test release does 5 minutes faster for you... That's nice. :)

Personally, I don't think LegitCheckControl.cab is the problem this time (or maybe the previous time too but you never knew that) because it's "international". I've been using the same CAB file on different language installations of Windows and haven't experienced any problems with it.

Can you try once without WINNT.SIF?
