The best burners are the Pioneer and Plextors, I think. NECs are also very good.

to me plextor is definetly the best but its 2-3x more expensive than most burners.

I'll postpone the HD buy to tomorrow.

I couldn't find any benchmark comparing Hitachi's T7K500/T7K250 and your models.

But for the MOBO, I think I'll get the Gigabyte.

The WD doesn't seem that good.

I wen to WD website and on this page in "Reviews and Awards" they link to some tests. Among them, techreport.com (conclusion says it's rather average) and TH.

Your first link is for a 320GB model (only one to have NCQ). And it's simply too big. No use for so much capactity (I need 2GB for my system partition, it's not Vista x64 20GB yet )

And last, for the other Seagate model, I think it was also reviewed by TH and Hitachi's model was a bit more performant I think. So Hitachi. B)

Btw, if I'd bought the HD last week, I'd taken a Maxtor.

Should I take a Nec ND-4550 or ND-4570 instead of a ND-3550 ?

i think it has a few more features such as dvd-ram. you decide, i really have no clue.

A friend of mine just advised me to take 4570. He told me it was sure. So I'll probably take it.

Also, I decided to change from A64 3000+ (Venice) to A64 3500+ (Winchester).

Only 12€ more expensive and scores better (by comparison 3800+ is 32€ more expensive).

I think everything is OK.

I have one last question though : should I integrate nForce4 drivers to my XP CD ?

Mobo based on NF4 Ultra and I'll probably disable RAID but the drive is SATA.

(first time I install XP on a SATA configuration)

no no!!! do not get winchester!@ get 3200 venice if its there. dont integrate ur drivers. sata is automatically detected.

Forgot to mention I can't have a Venice except if I buy it on the net and due to shipping delays I won't be able to test and stress the computer before 10 days.

The thing is my brother is a bit impulsive when it comes to buy things. Half of the computer is already purchased and I need to know if every component is OK.

Is there a problem with Winchesters, or is it simply that Venice are better ?

the winchesters have a very poor memory controller, the venice has the updated memory controller. the venice is just better.
