Aegis
Why can't I run any of the Vista programs on XP? For example, try the Vista calc.exe and you get the error:F:\Windows\System32\calc.exe is not a valid Win32 application.
nitroshift
x64 or x86? they don't mix. simple explanation but that's just my 2 cents...
allen2
It might simply come from the depencies which aren't found.
fizban2
many vista apps will not work on XP, the Dlls and dependices have changed or been rewritten, if you find what dependeces are needed for an app you can copy those across to XP and try it, no gauruntee that it will work though
Aegis
Nitro I'm insulted you'd think I'd mix the two . The solution turned out to be that the Vista PE header is different somehow and that it needs to be patched to be compatible with XP; check out this site: http://www.joejoe.org/XP_Ports.Now my next question is how you can patch any Vista EXE to work with XP. LLXX
F:\Windows\System32\calc.exe is not a valid Win32 application. That means the PE header format is invalid.

tap52384
Have you not heard of the VAIO project? The http://fromvistatoxp.com group has create a group of libraries that allow patching files and applications for use with Windows XP. It hasn't been updated since February, but it was complete enough to port the Vista Sidebar! Here is a link to download the Windows Vista Sidebar (complete with VAIO XP):http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=485Hope this helps!
