this might be useful for those who've got an unattended cd with Norton AntiVirus 2003

things you might drop:

- Manual folder: only containing acrobat reader and a pdf file = 9.5 Mb less

- MSI\WINNT folder: INSTMSIW.exe file (cfr FAQ & Tips) = 1.7 Mb less

- Support\MSIE folder: is this just an IExplorer installer ? sure seems so = 74.4 Mb less (!)

these tips are NOT tested

i'm gonna test them tomorrow

It works :)

Removed: MANUAL, MSI, Support/MSIE folders. And all the files in the root folder (Autorun, CDStart, setup.exe)

145 MB cut down to 56 MB

You can extract the latest symantec defs file and replace into the virusdef\latest folder to create a much more recent set of definitions than the aug2002 ones used by default.

Great for dial up PC's as liveupdates biggest download is not needed!

works this for NAV2004 too?

Yes, i just tried it! Just download the newest definition file from ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/antivirus_definitions/norton_antivirus

and extract it to \VIRUSDEF of your NAV folder, overwriting the old files.

why my nav2004 folder is 75mb? what can i delete?

Ok... once again... delete:

folder \MANUAL

folder \SUPPORT\MSI

folder \SUPPORT\MSIE

Any files in the root folder except NAVSETUP.EXE and README.TXT

Finally, extract the newest virus definitions to \VIRUSDEF.

Then RAR the whole thing.
