Weird scuffing sound coming from my PC late at night

Featured Replies

I leave my computer on at night to download stuff, and quite a lot over the last couple of weeks I have been woken up by the sound hearable here, I finally found out what it was today, guess what the culprit was... ;)

Search assistant dog...

lol is it sad that i didn't even have to think about that?

*edit to add a little tip i read somewhere else*

a regsrv32 thing to remove it and bring back the classic windows 2000 look search.

regsvr32 /s /u %windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll - Remove that stupid dog.

regsvr32 /s %windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll - Bring the dog back

That is one truly lame feature...

If I hadn't known better I would've thought a fan was dying.

Well, I didn't get to hear it....my browser locked up on that site, trying to play the sound file. :no:

So, I still don't know what your problem was. :}

Care to explain it? :thumbup

haha, little search assistant (i love that little guy :P )

if i din't know better i'd say you would have a family of mice living behind your tower :lol:

That sounds just like a dreaded HDD click of death! :o If that happened to me, I would have panicked and suspected a bad HDD! :realmad:
