Messerschmitt
I have checked my drive C: space and it says it have 6.85 GB used space. But if I select all the files inside drive C I get a total Size: 5.60 GB and Size on Disk: 5.49 GB.Where is the other 1GB+ usage on? ripken204
there are alot of hidden files, such as your pagefile which is most likely taking that space.
Andromeda43
If you haven't fussed around with your Pagefile, windows will have set it to 1.5x the size of your ram. Then there's a little thing called "overage".Get used to it or you'll go nuts.Enjoy!Andromeda43 B)
Messerschmitt
The page file show 339 MB when the usage is still at 6.85. (performance, windows task manager).
Ophiel X
it could also be time to chkdsk your harddrive. (start > run > chkdsk /f and restart for it to run)filesystem errors can make the drive report wrong amount of freespace.
LLXX
There's also the hiberfile.sys which is the size of the system RAM, used for hibernation purpose.
cluberti
Grab a utility called spacemonger, and you'll get a good look at what is using disk space, how much, and where.
Mordac85
If you change the Folder options and clear the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" flag you should now be able to see every file on your system. Unless you have the "Remember each folders view settings" checked, then you'll have to apply the change and then apply to all folders. Or clear the Remember flag.... HyperHacker
There's all the system files which may be hidden, pagefile, hiberfil.sys, some NTFS hidden files that Windows absolutely will not show, the filesystem itself, fragmentation, etc.It is strange that Size is bigger than Size On Disk though. Messerschmitt
If you change the Folder options and clear the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" flag you should now be able to see every file on your system.Bingo, that was it. Now if I select all the files the size will correspond to the size shown by properties.Thank you. Was worried there for a bit as thought the drive C might be a bit screwed up... (its pretty old)Thank you all for all the inputs and help provided.Cheers

HyperHacker
It can vary in size. Mine starts out at ~256MB and increases as necessary.
