libgra Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I have 3 PC's on my network (2 xMCE & 1x XP Pro). My daughter (XP Pro) is staying up way too late at night. Is there any way I can instruct the network to disconnect the connection at a certain time of night (or morning as the case may be) ?? Help... mother at wits end.
Gouki Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I have moved the post to Networks, Internet and Security forum. As for your question, is the network using some kind of router with built-in modem? I'm asking because some modems (ADSL and Cable) have a schedule option where you can specify a rule. You could create a rule to block all Internet traffic at a pre-defined time. This is even better than disconnecting all the network because it can be applyed to a single computer (using the IP address) and better than software, since there is no need to install anything. In case you don't have a router that supports this, you can check K9.
nitroshift Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 bitdefender internet security offers the option to specify the time when the connection to internet is available. and it offers password protection too, so no-one else can modify the settings.
tguy Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 NetNanny and CyberSitter also have that feature and our commercially available.
RogueSpear Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 A lot of consumer grade routers support restricting time of use. Nearly every Linksys I've come across does.
cconk01 Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Smoothwall and IPCop firewalls also can do this if you happen to have an older computer laying around.
BrainDrain Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Wow, there's a lot of ideas, I agree that BitDefender is the best idea suggested unless you know how to add a rule to your router?
