I have started toying around with mysql, php and a cupple other things on my linux box which has gotten me rather interested in it. I came across a template/download on sourceforge.net that looked really simular to what this website was made with. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some good downloads (free) that can help me make a home page like this one has... forums, polls, and things in that nature that I could run on my server. unfortunately you are right as for the registry. But thats still of my subject and i understand we are just trying to clarify whats going on but im still getting this error...

I currently am receiving an error on two domain controllers, both telling me they think they are the master browser and an election is going to be held. I have looked this up quite a bit. MrxSmb Event 8003 Server 1 should in fact be my master browser and currently hold all the FSMO roles. Server 2 is a remote domain controller (GC) at a remote location on a completely different subnet correctly specified in the AD Sites and Services. I ran across a reg edit to set the value of server one to TRUE as the master browser but that didn't work out so well. It locked me out completely and i had to restore the old registry. Its weird to me because only one of the remote DC's is currently doing this. I have a 3rd server at another location acting as a DC (GC) and i don't receive any problems from this server. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing what you think. All DC's are Windows 2003 R2 SP2 Also all my links in ad sites and services are all automatically generated. I have messed around with these but always end up having AD Sites and Serices reset to the default. Im really at a lost here...

How should I go about forcing out 2 new registry keys via GPO? I kinda lost myself, I have created the two new registry keys in one machine, exported them as a .reg file, but now i need to know how to apply them to all my computers. Do i need to create a batch and if so could someone give me an example of a simple script they use to puch out so I can get a feel for how this is done and how to make mine work for what i need to do? my apologies, i understand now. I checked and there are no batch files running to map printers, also all of the users are only domain users and another group i created called restricted, where i added the group restricted to each printer and denied them rights. This removed all the locally attached printers, but still when users log in to the server over TS users are able to see other printer sessions.

I dont want to enable them access to any other printer then there own. currently they can see all the printers, which is what i dont want.... i think you misunderstood my question....

I am currently in charge of locking down a W2K3 terminal server, which to my knowledge i have done an exceptional job at (i love locking thing down). Anyways i have restricted access to any local drives, redirected my documents to a mapped drive with quotas, removed any unwanted apps and used ntfs permissions to lock them out even further. My problem: When a remote user connects they bring with them there printer and is displayed to all other terminal service users. I need it so they are unable to see any local printers on the server and remove any other users from being able to see other RDP users printers but their own. Any ideas, software or thought would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Peter

I think Windows 2000 Advance would be overkill. Windows 2000 server and advance will allow you to setup a domain, join computers (pro) to the domain to make mamagement easier. Also Windows 2000 server allows more then 10 connections via file sharing and printing. M$ recommends you use a server if you have more then 10 computers on a network. This is because mainly Active directory allows you to gain more control over computers thus cutting down overhead spent on individual computers. You really need to look into Active Directory and decide if you need it or not. Also Windows Server family is designed more for server to client use, they make it so process are cut down on the gui side but increased for the client side. Also Windows server allows for more then one concurrent vpn connection, terminal services, and routing and remote access (vpn in also part of this service). If you plan to deploy an exchange server you will be required to use a server version of Microsoft. I am not very familiar with Advance server for i have never came across a need for it that i know of.

hello, i have a small domain (domain.local). Recently it locked out my user account that was in its own folder in active directory to enforce my own defined gp settings. the policy defines that the documents folders and desktop folders be re-directed to my server. What i did: I deleted the user peter that was not having any problems until i was locked out from my computer and from any settings in AD. I deleted the user (that was all i could do). I recreated the same user name and security settings. the login name is the same as the old one as is the password. The problem: I tried to log into my workstation with the user name peter. It logs in fine, but does not update any of the group policy settings that are in place (IE: folder redirection). Attempted fix: i went to command prompt ran gpupdate /force - nothing happened. I removed the computer from the domain and then restart it, and re-added it. now i don't know what to do.... Any help would be awesome. Thank you in advance

No, the thing isnt about them connecting to the right AP or not. The problem is, they are to lazy to connect to our companys AP, so the connect to another office's AP, thus they dont get GP updates, cant access network shares and what not.

Here is the setup - I have 4 basic wireless AP's around the office, they are connected to a switch then to a server which is being utilized as my VPN server for secure connections. I have noticed that some of the workers using there laptops are logging into another network to bypass having to connect to the vpn server. With that said we are using WinXP Service pack 2 and windows 2000 servers and our in a domain environment. How should I go about preventing workers from logging into the other wireless network?

Smoothwall and IPCop firewalls also can do this if you happen to have an older computer laying around.

As for using Samba i read an article that said that the current release of samba has the functionality of that equivalent to a Windows NT server... pretty outdated.... I have worked with samba briefly, can anyone tell me if you can use group policy settings with samba in the manor that you do with 2000 server or 2003 server?

The best way to stop it would ensure your password isnt known by others. In order for that to work you have to type in your current password and then your new password. If you dont know the users password you cant change it.

Also I think another reason you may wish to take into consideration is the fact that Windows XP only allows 10 concurrent connections over File Sharing and Printing. With a windows X server I believe there is no limitation or if there is it is much greater then 10 concurrent connections. As your network grows you may run into the problem. Just a thought....

You need to check and make sure you have TCP/IP enabled. Try restarting the hub and modem. Make sure you dont have some firewall blocking you aswell also make sure you havent changes some settings to IE like proxy settings unless you know you are using a proxy server...

Hi, I am new to this forum, but i have been having trouble with windows 2000 server. Currently i have 2 Servers. Server A runs DHCP, DNS, AD, File Sharing, and internal web site. Its Ip is 10.0.4.1. Server B is just a pretty standard computer, pentium 3 1.3 ghz running windows 2000 server, with two networking cards, card 1 is: 10.0.4.2 and card 2 is: 10.0.4.3. Card 1 connects to the switch behind the firewall, while Card 2 connects to a switch connected to three WAP's. My question is: i want to secure my wireless clients though a VPN. I have been able to have clients connect to Server b, but they arent able to acces the Internet, other computers over My Network Places, and the file server. What should i do? i am new to the IT area, but i know a decient amount. Any help would be great. Also i have included a diagram that i created that should be somewhat helpfull if this was confusing.
