deathwarder Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 ok, I am trying to make my really loud p4 system run quietly, I built it myself, and have seen systems from companies that run almost silently with the same specs, do you have any suggestions? It is the fans making most of the noise, but I am investigating a software ramdrive to load programs like firefox into at boot, just to make them easier to access
ripken204 Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 well the ramdrive wont help with sound much...first you need to get a temp monitoring program to find out what you current temp is. you should also get some new quiet fans, 120mm if possible.
deathwarder Posted April 25, 2006 Author Posted April 25, 2006 I have a busget of $0, and I know my temps, cpu idles 45c, loads 64-66c
puntoMX Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 $0 budget, nice... You can try to run your fans on 7volts. If the system doesn’t crash under heavy loads you’ll be safe, don’t pay to much attention to temps, they are just an indication except if you use a laser temperature measurement device like the pros do .
deathwarder Posted April 25, 2006 Author Posted April 25, 2006 wha do you mean thy are just an indication?
puntoMX Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 If you monitor your temperatures with the onboard censors, it will give you an indication of the temperatures, most of the time there is a tolerance of 10% or even more. Take 10 motherboards with the same cooler, same CPU and past and you already see differences even if it’s the same brand, type and BIOS of the motherboards.People are too worried about temps all the time, believe me, there is nothing to worry about, if it works under heavy loads then its okay.
deathwarder Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 ok, how can I make the fan speed stay in the 2000-3000 range while temps are 68c? Also, my cpu used to load at 52, that increased, then I used new thermal paste and it decreased, only to increase slowly again
puntoMX Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 And now? There are nice fan-bays you could use to control your fans and play with it.
deathwarder Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 my budget is now $0, I was wondering about reducing case vibration and stuff like that, my fans are both at 2000rpm
nitroshift Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 keep your pc case open and the room fan blowing into it!
