deathwarder Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 ok, here are my comps specs2.8ghz intel p4 520ati radeon x800pro 256asus p5gd1 motherboardwhat should I overclock? I am using stock cooling for the cpu and gfx card, and have reasonable airflow in my case
ripken204 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 um.. why not both?just make sure to monitor your temps, upgrading you cooler will help alot tho.
gdogg Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 (edited) you 2.8ghz p4 should do anywhere from 3.2-4.4your ati x800pro's I heard clock very well too. you'll want to use atitool for that. Edited April 24, 2006 by gdogg
deathwarder Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 3.2-3.4? what temps should I expect? I hit 65c load now
ripken204 Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 hmm, well if u want to overclock alot then u will need a good heatsink. try out 3.0ghz and monitor those temps.
deathwarder Posted April 25, 2006 Author Posted April 25, 2006 ok, any suggestions on decreasing my current load temp to prepare for overclocking?
ripken204 Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 you cant lower temps unless u get a new heatsink or better fans. thats unless you case is a mess inside, that one of the reasons i keep my case very organized, airflow is a huge plus.
ripken204 Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 well get some zip ties at you local hardware store for 5$, im sure u can afford that... i got a 100 pack from newegg and went crazy, helps so much.
gdogg Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 (edited) yah and depending on what socket it is, heat is your issue no matter what, even with stock heatsink, but those dont often limit overclocks as much as you'd think on an intel, cause they are used to being hot, try for 3.4, I'd be amazed if it didn't do that on stock heatsink, but make sure your case has a few fans around the cpu heatsink, or atleast 2 case fans, when your power supply doesn't pull away any heat from the processor. LLXX Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 3.7GHz should be attainable, if not with the stock fan an aftermarket one should work. With water cooling it might be able to get 4GHz.
