Aegis
So you're not using wireless, but yet your connection drops? Can you double-check you're using the right network card? Maybe you have two cards installed, and XP decided to use the wireless one.
pcandpc
Hi Sppeling Nazi,On this xp machine, I do not haveany wireless cards. When the connection drops, the onlyway to bring it back is to physicallydisconnect the router's power cordand reconnect.Thanks. nmX.Memnoch
This sounds like you're having a problem with the router, and not the machine. Is there more than one machine connected to the router?
gamehead200
Make sure your router is set to Keep Alive and not Connect On-Demand... It should be on the main setup page.
pcandpc
Hi nmX.Memnoch and gamehead200,Thanks for your comments. As for the "keep alive" option, I have alreadytried that but that does not help.Yes. I do have another computer connectedto the same router wiredly, but I only use onecomputer at a time as this second machine isjust for a back up purpose. That does not mean that the problem is no longerthere when two machines are operating -- I do notknow about that as I have not experimented it.Recently, I had the router replaced by the manufacturerbut the problem still exists.I tried with a different branded wired router to factorout my dsl service provider, and I have no problemwith this other branded wired router. So, I am puzzled whether this is a wireless router thingy.Any ideas? Aegis
Maybe it's just a problem with that specific router model. Why not get a different router?
puntoMX
Set your router in "stealth" mode so it doesn’t reply to pings from WAN. Also the router could get overheated, check if that is the case. I hope it helps for you .
