slimzky Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 guys, while browsing free-codecs website.. i found this codec pack w/c is i think a new release & this is their description.. i think its the same as our WMP10Lite >> http://ksphere.free.fr/site/w/c do u think is the better pack? Windows Media Lite .. http://www.codecguide.com/download_other.htmSome tools (like nLite and XPlite) allow you to remove Windows Media Player from your system or even prevent it from ever being installed. The downside to this is that vital components for Windows Media playback are also removed. As a result you won't be able to play Windows Media files in your browser or in your favorite player. A solution for this problem is Windows Media Lite, which restores those vital components. This package can also be used to install the Windows Media codecs.[ Version 2.2.0 | 9.04 MB | March 14th 2006 ]
Jeremy Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 That's made by a member of these forums. I forget his username. He just made a collection of the WMP10 codecs (or runtimes) and packed them into a self-extracting EXE. It's designed to be used if either you're having playback issues with WMP or you used nlite to remove WMP10 and use a different media player and can't playback WMV / ASF files at all. I hate WMP, I recommend Media Player Classic.
slimzky Posted March 18, 2006 Author Posted March 18, 2006 well, i tested the pack Windows Media Lite 2.0 to my unattended instalation & it didnt work for me.. when itry to play WMV file, my media player classic looks for a codec i wondedr why this pack installed the files in the program files directory.. titou2k's pack installs in system32 directory.. i decided to uninstall this & use WMP10Lite again
Jeremy Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 titou2k's pack installs in system32 directoryBecause that's where the codecs are supposed to go.

In this pack, i think that there are encode WMV codec.I have used his pack (with Quicktime and ReaLite) for a long time on several pc's and laptops, with MPC and FFDshow, works fine, also streaming in Firefox is no problem.
