Crispy Posted June 26, 2003 Share Posted June 26, 2003 WOW YOU CAN DO THAT????Yes, some modems can be uncapped... BUT ITS ILLIGAL as hell to uncap your cable modem! And unless your ISP is using equipment from the stoneage you WILL get cought and you will proberly face charges. Although modemuncapping will give you insane speeds (In my case 30.34Mbit vs my current 256Kbit) its not worth trying! ... The risk of getting cought is simply to great!how?!?!!?The trick is to fool the modem into downloading its config file from your PC instead of your ISP's config-server. Its a quite complicated process that can only be done on modem with a welldocumented securityflaw (also wellpatched flaw). Because if the flaw being so wellknown almost all ISP have updated their modems to avoid it, so modem firmwaredegrading is also involved.... and NO! - Im not gonna post links to how its done ...
