techguy21801 Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 does anybody know of a free firewall that runs good and takes up very little resources?
gamehead200 Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Zone Alarm maybe?Or you can shop around on eBay for some nice Linksys routers with firewalls included with them...
techguy21801 Posted June 23, 2003 Author Posted June 23, 2003 ok any other ones except anoealarm? i don't trust it
vcant Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 you said free, i dont know anything else, why dont you trust it?i heard someone saying Kerio is good, check if they have free version
MSNwar Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Here is a link to some of the firewalls we tested a few days ago. Should give you a good idea of what works.http://www.MSFN.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=21&t=6713The firewall included in XP is good, but since you are using W2K I would suggest Zone Alarm.
techguy21801 Posted June 23, 2003 Author Posted June 23, 2003 duh...zonealarm ...has any one heard anything good about sygate?
vcant Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 yep, no when you say that, i heard of sygate, i think its good,in the link MSNWar gave you i think someone used sygate...
MSNwar Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Did a Google search "free firewall" and this came up, http://www.free-firewall.org/Scrolled down to the bottom of the page and found this link "free firwall list" that leads to this, http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/free-firewall.aspSeems most of them have 30 day trials.
techguy21801 Posted June 23, 2003 Author Posted June 23, 2003 i need this for a client of mines pc. running 98se. i think i'll try the sygate or kerio thanksthe reason i don't like zonalarm is i deal with alot in my field and it'a always a pain in the a**.
techguy21801 Posted June 23, 2003 Author Posted June 23, 2003 i use blackice on my server and i like it does a great job..
Th3ChaS3r Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 HEhe blackice yeah, LOL that firewall might aswell be backdoored for all the use it does. mate there are so many holes in blackice its untrue for sure its either ZA pro make sure its a pro edition not the freebiez or sygate depending on if your a novice or not. Sygate enables you to configure certain rule sets etc etc whereas for userbility its ZA hands down.Th3ChaS3r
