Sonic Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 in safe mode, try disable all non-microsoft services with "msconfig"
cluberti Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 If it works in safe mode but not a regular boot, it's one of 3 things:- non-Microsoft services- 3rd-party drivers- startup itemsI second the use of msconfig to disable all non-Microsoft services and all startup items, and reboot to see if the problem persists in regular mode. If the problem goes away, you'll have to start re-enabling services and startup items until the problem returns. If the problem does NOT go away after using msconfig, it's going to be a driver issue, and you will have to track down which driver is causing it by upgrading or removing drivers.
Sonic Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 To disable/delete wrong drivers manually, you can use autoruns from sysinternals too. It allow to view and delete all .sys drivers loaded at startup.
angel0104 Posted March 6, 2006 Author Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) thanks a lot!!!i just did a fresh install but still no luck. logon shows up then freezes. Edited March 6, 2006 by angel0104
HyperHacker Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Mine always takes a minute or two to get past this. Make sure you give it at least 5 minutes or so.
angel0104 Posted March 6, 2006 Author Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) i did let it but still no luck. could it be the board or the hd? i tried reformatting it again but i got stuck at t-10 then the usual hang at logn. Edited March 6, 2006 by angel0104
jftuga Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 If you can get in when you boot into safe-mode, you could then try installing Autologon from www.sysinternals.com. This makes it so that you do not have to type in a name & password each time.Good luck,-John
angel0104 Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 my windows is set to already autologon. when the loading preferences appears or just the welcomescreen, everything freezes. as of now it's my 5th time to reformat & install windows & still no luckdunno what's causing it to hang. even when i boot it loading the last config that worked.as of now, i'm using this pc in safemode -- works but who would want it always like this i've also tried their suggestion to disable non-microsoft services & drivers. it keeps freezing when the welcome screen appears.i have:p4 630asus p5gl-mx2 x 1gb geil1 maxtor sata1 maxtor pata1 liteon dvdrw512 radeon x800xlwinfast tv tunerin the bios there is this hardware prefetcher & adjacent cache --- in the cpu config. what does it do?please help.
cluberti Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Is this an install using an nLite'd CD, or is it a retail XP CD? Also, have you integrated any drivers, software, or patches into the installation sequence?
hougtimo Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 this sounds very much like a driver issue. Try booting up in safe mode and note if it hangs on any drivers
