os2fan2 Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 if i recall correctly, microsoft sold off xenix to someone else.
somewan Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 if i recall correctly, microsoft sold off xenix to someone else. That's true. It was transferred to SCO (http://www.sco.com/[/ur])at some point, and in some shape or form, but that's not theend of the story. For example, the Run-time Library Referencefor version 8 of the MS C compiler, printed in 1993, still says:Microsoft, MS, MS-DOS, XENIX, and QuickC are registeredtrademarks and Windows, etc... are trademarks of MicrosoftCorporation in the USA and other countries.I also seem to recall that SCO had to pay royalties to Microsoftfor a long time, and that there was a legal dispute about it.Changes in the MS-DOS Unix-compatibility suggests adistinct shift in company policy at some point between MS-DOS3.0 and 4.0. For example, the 4.x command line utilitiesstopped paying attention to the "switch-char" setting (theprimary purpose of which was/is to allow the use ofUnix-style '/'-separated paths that would otherwise conflictwith the use of '/' as a command-line option character).
