Aegis Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 What do you guys recommend? I decided that I absolutely need an aftermarket cooler, so I'm getting the Thermalright V1-Ultra. What would benefit my FPS more, memory or core overclock?
ripken204 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835186133get this instead, i dont go over 60C with my 7800gtfor a good overclock you should do this volt modhttp://www.planetamd64.com/index.php?showtopic=15247i am currently490/1.14
Aegis Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 I was considering using the NV5, but the base of the NV5 does not make contact with the memory modules. Instead they use thick thermal pads , which wouldn't be as efficient (V-1U uses RAM sinks). Also take a look at this:http://www.legionhardware.com/Bench/Therma..._Ultra/test.gif
ripken204 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 well after looking at some reviews i guess it is pretty good, it can be loud tho. the nvsilencer is very queit. go ahead and get it tho, if the fan bothers you then u can just change it.
Aegis Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 What about the overclock? Is there a certain ratio for optimal performance?
teqguy Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 I was considering using the NV5, but the base of the NV5 does not make contact with the memory modules. Instead they use thick thermal pads , which wouldn't be as efficient (V-1U uses RAM sinks).Well, that leaves you with one of two options: Remove the thermal pads and use a dab of Arctic Silver or Ceramique between the memory and the base. Cut off the area of the base that makes contact with the memory and use ramsinks(I recommend Swiftech's due to their high density). In either case, I would definitely recommend the Silencer over the V-1U any day.Oh... and for additional cooling efficiency, you can always duct the Silencer from an intake fan and have its airflow completely auxillary to the rest of the case.
ripken204 Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 ratio? just wait until u get that new heatsink on, then u can use coolbits to find you optimum overclockhttp://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815coolbits will show up as "clock frequency settings" under your nvidia display properties
Porn Loader Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 *sniopped*Well, that leaves you with one of two options:[*] Remove the thermal pads and use a dab of Arctic Silver or Ceramique between the memory and the base.thats not going to work very well if the gaps +2mm....... (even on a smaller gap i'd be worried about running that...)
spazmire11 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 i would say core over memory, however if you can get a overall averge of higher clock i would let the benches say. there is no ratio for 7800's as far as i know however i could be wrong....
gdogg Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 (edited) i got 2 evaga 7800 gt co'sI volt moded themthey are already great, 570/1.1now I got 585/1.7I think it could be because I am using sli ...stock coolers there, they are LOUD, during boot up, but quiet, as soon as windows starts, but then again, they still the loudest things in my system, even more so than a 120MM 89CFM fan at full. Aegis Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 Just bought the V-1 Ultra for my 7800GT. I was seriously considering replacing the stock 24CFM fan with a Vantec Tornado 80CFM fan, but instead opted for a quieter Panaflo .
ripken204 Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 now that u have that on, get overclocking
Aegis Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 (edited) Still shipping . Being the penny-pincher I am, I don't expect to see it in 5-15 days (plenty of time for me to perfect Windows GE) . Edited February 13, 2006 by Aegis
Maleko Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 (edited) I got a 76GT, it runs at:Core 590MHzMemory 800MHz Edited March 29, 2006 by Maleko
Aegis Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 Well the 7900GT is out and I just returned my 7800GT to get the new card . Trying to find a sub-$300 card now.
