Aegis Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Haven't noticed it before, but from a profile view, I just noticed that the 7800GT's heatsink does not make contact with the memory modules (~0.5cm off). I don't have enough money to purchase an aftermarket cooler, so any suggestions?
LLXX Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Memory, even VRAM, usually doesn't need cooling. As long as the GPU's being cooled and you're not experiencing any strange pixels on the screen during graphics-intensive applications, it should be fine.
spazmire11 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 i see no problem with that you might lose 10mhz on your ram oc, nothing big.
Aegis Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 Is there any way for me to check the heat of the memory modules without a thermal probe? And do I need to remove the AS-5?

Aegis Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 But originally, the wax thermal compound did indeed make contact. It was after I removed it and replaced it with AS-5 that the memory modules did not touch the heatsink.
ripken204 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 you didnt tighten the heatsink enough. you have to tighten it alot even if it feels like its about to break, just make srue that you get contact
