I've been playing with Bluetooth a lot lately...your problem isn't uncommon.

All Bluetooth devices need a 'stack' to operate...think of it as a super driver. Anywho, since XP SP2 M$ has included their own stack, but it's very limited because it tries to be universal. Most Bluetooth adapters still rely on their own stack, especially big OEM's like Logitech and Toshiba, who in turn license it out to companies like Dell, HP, and Belkin.

From what I've seen you have four major Windows stacks:

1. M$ Stack

2. WidComm

3. Toshiba

4. BlueSoleil

Problem is all the three commercial products use their own form of licensing the stack. And of course each version only supports specific adapters. This causes tons of issues when installing or upgrading the stack. You usually have to just stick with the latest official stack the the manufacturer suggests. That sucks cause most of the time the only version availible through the manufacturer is the one that ships with the unit. You can hack and patch the licensing of the stacks, there is a lot of info on google about that...but that's illegal of course. Plus, results aren't always that great when hacking the stack.

The whole point of this long post is to explain that you are basically stuck using one or the other...if the M$ stack works with your device then you can hang with that, or you can install the stack that came with your adapter but you'll have to disable the M$ stack. You probably want to stick with the stack that came with it if you want the most features. To give an example, when I use the M$ stack with a particular adapter I can't use a headset as an audio device. But, if I use the stack that came with the device then I can use it as an audio device...sounds comes out the speaker, and I can recored through the mic on the headset. It's sweet! Not great sound quality, but it is perfect for Skype.

And if you are going to stay with the manufacturers stack, you should disable the M$ stack so it doesn't get in the way:

Informative post. I used bluetooth once on my laptop to connect to another mac laptop and it worked like a charm. All I had to to do was to turn on a service that I ususally leave turned off when I am not using BT and voila the icon appeared and everything and it worked quite fine. I am gonna upgrade to the BT 2.0 specs soo enough.

BlueSoleil will automatically disable the XP stack when you install it. It's what came with my generic adapter (which is based on a Cambridge Silicon Radio chip). I had some problems with BlueSoleil being able to push files to my Motorola V600, but it turned out I could just uninstall it and use the XP stack. It's a bit more of a pain to use (not that BlueSoleil was that easy either), but at least it works.

wow...thanks a lot for your post..yes u are correct..i'm using bluesoleil............well i would like to stick with the windows version.....but after unsinstalling....windows doesn't recognize the BT.........it is asking for the thirdparty software.........i want to control my Bt with windows only.........the whole purpose for all this is to send file by ms command, it would be great if i can use this command bthprops.cpl in the run..but until now nothing happens when Ok it in the RUN.....

thanks again..

Well if the M$ stack doesn't recognize your adapter then as far as I know you are S.O.L.

You can only pick which stack if you have two stacks that recognize your adapter...so in your case, since the bluesoleil is the only one that works then that is pretty much what you are stuck with. Sometimes you can hack in support to the other stacks, but I haven't seen anyone attempt to hack in support for other adapters to the M$ stack.

There might be a chance you could do that, but you would need to find certain PNP id's from the bluesoleil driver INF's. You could then insert those id's into the M$ bluetooth driver INF and see if it works...but I doubt it.

If you could post the adapters manufacturer, model, and any other specific info about the device that might help...and possibly the INF file for the driver too.

When you have BlueSoleil installed do this:

- Open Computer Management

- Go to Computer Management (Local) -> System Tools -> Device Manager

- Select Bluetooth Radios

- Double click on your bluetooth adapter to open the properties

- Go to the Details tab

Once you're there give us what it says for the Device Instance Id. For instance, mine is:

USB\VID_0A12&PID_0001\5&3AD090D&0&2

My Bluetooh Adapter is also from IVT, but it uses a Cambridge Silicon Radio chip, which is natively supported by MS's Bluetooth Stack.

Apple always does their stuff better...and just think, soon we might be able to benefit from that! I can't wait to dual-boot an XP and OSX system...mmmmm.

Back to the topic, given the information you provided, looks like this is the closest:

[HW70]

ID=USB\VID_1131&PID_1001

Type=Bluetooth USB Dongle

DLL=Driver\USB\btcusb.dll

DLLD=Driver\USB\btcusbd.dll

Inffile=Driver\USB\btcusb.inf

Manufacture=ISSC

Now if you could see if btcusb.inf is somewhere and post that, we might get somewhere.

I just noticed that the long file you posted earlier is an ini file, so that isn't the actual driver file...the btcusb.inf should be the one we need.
