keytotime Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 So which loseless encoder is the best. I personally use wavpack.
DigeratiPrime Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 hmm I voted for FLAC because thats what I've been using for a while. But I will check out Wavpack. Im not sure i like the idea of lossy/hybrid compression though. Either way it seems these two are the only good choices http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flachttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavpackhttp://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...less_comparison
keytotime Posted December 20, 2005 Author Posted December 20, 2005 Wavpack is loseless, it has an option to do hybrib compression.
Fox Mulder Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 (edited) WavPack, it has no cons and with the last encoder it finally has working ReplayGain!, sweet. Time to reencode all those monkeys. Edited December 20, 2005 by Fox Mulder
FAT64 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 If they are all "lossless", then surely, by definition, it doesn't matter which one you use?
DigeratiPrime Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 from my research i gather that FLAC encodes and decodes faster than WavPack. The Lowest And Highest Encode setting in FLAC makes little difference.WavPack achieves slightly better compression than FLAC.WavPack also has a few more features and better support.Would others agree or disagree?
Fox Mulder Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 If they are all "lossless", then surely, by definition, it doesn't matter which one you use?ARJ for DOS, and the latest WinRAR pack files; now what would you choose? OK, maybe I exagerated, but some features make great difference to a user.
keytotime Posted December 25, 2005 Author Posted December 25, 2005 There are a lot of difference's. File size, encoding decoding time and software support.
Jeremy Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 FLAC, I guess. I have a friend who is as picky about audio as I am about video. Too bad I don't have a working FireWire port on my DVC or the patience to script with AviSynth... oh well...
