Hi,

Does anyone know how to restrict users from using the CD-R function??? I only need to block the "Burn" but not "Read".

I'm using a Win2003 Domain but didn't see anything in the GPO would help. All the workstations are XPs.

Thanks.

you could disable the windows native cdburning service -

wasn't that IMAPI (or somthing ? ) how about looking at google..

turning off the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Sevice will turn off the built-in ability of XP to burn CDs, but if the user has rights they will be able to install another cd burning program and still burn

so then disable the launching or nero.exe roxio stuff. or disable the "install programs" thingy..

and i'm sure there is a setting under gpedit.msc (user policy)

or a fantastic approach. u could install the cdrom driver to all workstations instead of the cd-rw driver :D

disable imapi.sys ....

or u can download firmware that disables the cd writing feature and apply the firmware to all computers :D

ow for your info, some cd burning software were disabled in my school, so i used command prompt cd burning programs :D so u could disable that too but i dunno how :P

yeah you can disable it via group policy

Start - Run - type gpedit.msc (not available in Windows XP Home Edition).

Go to User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Explorer.

Look for "Remove CD Burning Features" and double click on it.

Choose ENABLED and apply.

Force the group policy to update on the clients pc (gpupdate /force) or reboot the computer
