XPerties Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I have this folder that I'm unable to delete or rename and I've tried it in safe mode also and no luck. Any ideas?
garnet Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Try using Move On Boothttp://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html
nmX.Memnoch Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Have you tried running chkdsk? That could mean there is a problem with the index for that file in the MFT.
Jeremy Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 It's not an issue of it being in use by another program. It can't even be read from the physical location of the disk. Possible a bad sector? chkdsk for sure...
Synapse Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 (edited) sounds more like invalid character in the folder name to me.. if you open a command prompt and do dir does the foldername show up with any ASCII characters like ♣ or whatever.. Edited December 1, 2005 by Bi0haZarD
XPerties Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 No funky character from command prompt:11/13/2005 11:57 AM <DIR> Peter Jackson's King Kong official GameThere is however a extra space oafter the folder name. I'll run chkdsk but this is only an issue with one folder and never had any other troubles.
gunsmokingman Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Have you tried to rename the folder then delete it.
XPerties Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 The folder and error is shown in my first post. The same error happens when trying to delete and "rename" the folder.
Zxian Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Have you tried removing the folder using Knoppix or BartPE? That would be my next move. Another solution would be to use the recovery console to remove the folder. To install it, put in your XP CD and run the following command:D:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdconsIt will install the recovery console on your computer, and give you a new boot option. You might be able to delete the folder from there.
spiritpyre Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 (edited) have you tried to delete from the command prompt after killing explorer via task manager? I've had a few weird things like that happen, and usually I could fix it with that.if not, try this:rmdir /S /Q foldernameotherwise you might try something like Unlocker or similiar software Edited December 1, 2005 by spiritpyre
XPerties Posted December 1, 2005 Author Posted December 1, 2005 None of the commands worked but that unlocked software worked perfect.Thank you.
clover65 Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 thanks so much spiritpyre.....unlocker worked perfectly...even though my folder wasnt locked ,it still deleted it
