Okay, and do you want to hear from us what we think about it? 2GB of RAM, i would go for the GTX version instead of the 2MB RAM, you will not get that much performance out of your new rig, also, why not a X2 3800+ and kick the s*** out of it when OCing it :P, that would be cool, 2GHz up to a 2.4 or 2.6GHz ;). Other then that… NIZE!!!

ps. Trow away the other 1Gig (of 2), take the X2 3800, and get your self a GTX 512 ;)...

i'm not too sure with overclocking. i've been looking for benchmarks comparing different amd processors and overclocked ones but have been failing...

*edit*

what you told me to do brings the price up to $1900. right now is way over my limit. my dad says $1000. so i'm going to be paying the $600 extra.

it´s easy to do, even your grandma can do it with a little help ;). the 4200 runs at 2.2GHz as far as I know, that´s just 200MHz more, lousy 10%...

I run Sempron64 2500+ 1.4GHz@2.4GHz with stock cooling, just 8.3% more voltage (socket 754).

Don´t be afraid...

ow, and on tomshardware they have some new CPU charts, check them out ;)...

Wait, I see that 2x 1Gig isn´t that expensive any more... keep it in anyway ;)

Edit: okay, butget is a bit small for the new nVidia monster, so yes, a 7800GT(X?) would be nice too. Still running my old 6800LEs here, (unlocked all, Oced to 350/850 so it comes close to a 6800GT :) )

Other point here: the case is a bit cheap, thin 0.6mm galvanized iron... I would go for a better case, minimum a 0.8mm SECC steel case or an aluminium case...

Do you want a window in it?

Edit: Like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811125438

A good case, made out of 1mm SECC steel, you can make it look nice easely with neon and LED-fans.

And what about the harddisk drives???

spend a little more money for better stuff

cpu: opteron 170

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103586

ram:same ram but thej pc4000 model

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820227219

do u rly need sli, otherwise get this

for burner-nec 3550

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...TC-pr1c3grabb3r

if sli then get this

dont get a sound card, yet... try out the onboard and see how it is for you

u might want to get the ocz powerstream 520 but thats ur decision

can i get benchmarks on opteron processors? i have barely looked at any opteron ones. i don't see much difference.

are you sure the ram would work? PC 4000? the motehrboard says PC 3200 ram.

what's bad about the the case?

as for the harddisks...i just got 2 160gb hard drives last year. i think they are good for at least another year...then i can get some SATA ones.

Depending on what model Opterons you are looking at, they're about the same as an Athlon 64. The only thing people get them for is the overclocking potential and reliability. The PC4000 RAM simply refers to the RAM being able to operate at a normal rate of 250 MHz FSB, which is considerably higher than the standard 200MHz being used as a default on AMD processors. Another words, just more overclocking potential.

If you really only have IDE interface hard drives, I strongly recommend getting an SATA otherwise you will regret it. My system's biggest bottleneck is the hard drive itself, since I screwed up by not going SATA on my previous upgrade. I have a fast processor, good RAM, but am hindered by the slow transfer rate of the hard drive. I can tell this by playing games that require file swapping, such as F.E.A.R. and Battlefield 2. The CPU and RAM has to wait for the information from the hard drive in order to continue the process, which slows the system down marginally, whereas if I had SATA drives, the gameplay would be a lot smoother.

opterons are mush more reliable b/c they are meant for servers so they go thru testing to make sure they are good. get some sataII drives when u can.

Yeps, most definitely get an opteron. Got myself an opteron 146 @ 2ghz this week. Its currently running @ 2.8 ghz at stock voltages right now. Gonna let it burn in for a couple of more days till I start cranking up the volts and see how much I can get out of this baby. Hoping for at least a 3.1 ghz o/c on this one. BTW this is all on air cooling!
