Explorer Update

Recommended Posts

My daughter has an older laptop that she use for small applications. She wanted to get on the internet. I bought a wireless card to use on laptop. Her laptop runs windows SE. I saw that windows SE has Explorer 5.0. I have DSL at home running Windows Xp Pro. My problem is that when I try to install her wireless card it's asking for IE 5.5 or higher. I don't have dial up any more so I can't connect her modem to upgrade. Tried to download Explorer and it keeps telling me that I have newer version allready installed. Can I download explorer to Zp drive or something to install on laptop?

The proper way to Upgrade an I.E. 5.0 install to I.E. 6/SP1 is with the CD from Microsoft. I got mine for free.....I think I paid the shipping and handling charge of $5 or so.

Almost any (decent) tech in your area should have one. Have you asked?

I personally did not want a copy, so I got mine directly from Microsoft.

I use it often on service calls where I'm faced with an old PC running ver 5 or 5.5.

The download from MS is problematical at best.

On your desktop machine, you need to download not in the "normal" way, but along the lines of these instructions:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...;257249&sd=tech

PLEASE, DOUBLE check the parameters, and verify that the quotes are matching, it is the single most reported problem, as the quotes must be EXACTLY as stated.

also you will need the /d:1 switch to download for all OS.

this is about to sound stupid but you could have just installed one of the many aol discs floating around out there, that would have updated it......also some of the old msn dics had so u could just copy the IE folder straight off the cd and install it, if u have one of those avaiable........

Maybe I'm in a strange mood today, but if canoncopy asks how he can download a full IE update, WHY everyone else is trying to convince him to get a CD?

:w00t:

On a side note, some good uses for AOL's CDs:

Experiments with 'em:
