Microsoft to no longer use key code

I was watching Fox News yesterday, and caught a breif 2min clip of them talking about Microsoft's new approach to securing copies of Windows XP. I think it mentioned that they will no longer require you to put in the authentication code, but some way or another they are checking the actual hard drive. Does anyone know any more about this?

Yep, I heard a little... There are more plans on changing activation... For example there will be some time delay before you will need to activate your windows (so you can use activate in winnt.sif and it will automatically activate when internet is available)... However AFAIK you will still need product code.

internet/phone activation is a pain in the a** but i wonder how many time could take to crack vista's copy protection

a work-around will be out within a few days and thats even assuming that the windows-xp one wont work on it

It seems that everytime Vole comes out with something security related, it gets broken within a matter of 42 hrs. at the most. That would be quite frustrating that people keep breaking your stuff all the time.
