have you tried system restore? otherwise I would suggest using the rollback drivers feature, though i couldn't vouch for any sort of success rate with that.

yea i tried system restore and still no luck and now i tried driver roll back and that just brings me back to the help and support screen which says the same thing and also it cant be rolled back it was the only driver,,, ms default driver..

any more ideals thank you for the reply

so u tried installing drivers and stuff? since its something with the registry then u could try to find it in the registry and then delete it then reinstall the drive

try it in another comp to see if it works, if it does work then u might need to reinstall xp

well i search the liteon site for drivers on the device and theres none listed all it says is its a ms default driver and im not sure where to get that at on the ms site

also we just reset the pc because of this same problem and after 1 day of use the same problem occured,, we have tried this drive in 2 other pcs and it worked just fine but we didnt use the device in the other pcs for very long just enough for a test so the problem never occured

my thoughts are that the dvd liteon needs to be reflashed

im trying to avoid resetted the os due to this problem keeps reoccuring..

if i look into the registry what strings do you think i need to delete also how can i reinstall this device with out its drivers, ? will they search the ms site for the default driver ?

im not really sure what to do now..

but im definatly trying to avoid a os reset,, and also were thinking of just replacing the drive all together

but i want to test this situation more to try to fix the problem

Try deleting the upper level and lower level filters in the registry and then rebooting. If you are not sure where to get these filters in the registry just do a simple google search for them.

ok ive tried a few searches in google and ive found alot of information about them telling me what they do but so far nothing to actually pinpoint what areas in the strings that need to go

can anyone point me further on this because im having trouble finding what registry strings to remove,

these filters are new to me and the registry is normally some thing i dont use as my play ground

ok heres an update i 86th doing the reg deletes because i didnt know where i should of started

ive reset the pc and now wierd things have happened like files dont carry over from the cds all the way or they werent burned very well..

but all in all im pretty sure about 98 percent that the prob lies in the dvd burner

the reason i say this isbecause

1 in the past few weeks the majority of the burns have been bad

2 burns that were gr8 become bad when trying to reuse them to copy files over

and i could name more but im ripping there burner out to replace it,,

but once again if any one has any ideals for this thread id like to hear them even tho im sure the drive is bad,

but id still like to know more about the filters for upper and lower placement in the reg :)
