ip connect games

[Lost Soul]

hi, im not sure about the right terminology for the type of games but i was wondering if any body could put me in the right direction

id like to play games with a individual by connecting our pcs up through ip connect,, and no i dont want to connect through a server to do it..

i know monoply can connect ips directly to play a game, meaning one pcs the host and the other joins.

can some one tell me what this type of games are called so that i know what to look for and also if anybody knows of any, could you point me to a list on the internet if possible

keep in mind im not really a big game player i like the simple games like dominoes, chess, yahtzee and things like that

yes i know i can easily connect to servers to play these types of games

but id really like to avoid servers since there will only be 2 pcs involved

why dont u just use lan? ive played monopoly with a friend before but i dont remember how it was set up tho

well, often you have to connect through a server, but it doesn't have to be a 3rd party server. many multiplayer games allow you to run your own server which is often rather transparent to you. sometimes this means starting a LAN (local area network) server. so 1 box runs the server and the other then connects to it (this is often very simple).
