harunaksoy Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Apple Computer plans to announce Monday that it's scrapping its partnership with IBM and switching its computers to Intel's microprocessors, CNET News.com has learned.Link
jeeva Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Is the Intel Processor x86 based or has it PowerPC Architecture? If it is x86, we can hope, that we can have OS X on our machines :-)
Zxian Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 It's something I've been wondering as well... One of the reasons why Apple has been dominant in the image/video development market is because their computers were much better optimized for that kind of work. If they switch to an x86 processor, then what will be the point of buying an Apple computer aside from the OS?I think that the whole computer itself will still be managed by Apple, so their hardware driver database will still be much smaller than Windows', so the idea of porting OSX over to your run-of-the-mill PC might still be a bit far fetched.

Apple has lost their dominance on the DTP field a looooong time ago. Even Adobe recommend you use WINDOWS machines for Adobe Photoshop. Edited June 7, 2005 by enuffsaid
Incroyable HULK Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 it would have been a better move to pair up with AMD. Far superior processor design... but unfortunatly not good as Intel for Chipsets
