Creative Mxer Settings Unattended

Hi everyone! I am using Creative Live Audio Card with drivers ver 5.12.1.444 using $OEM$\drivers folders and winnt.sif during the setup.

Can someone suggest how to implement my default settings of enabling 4.1 speakers with my own settings of Bass and Treble after a fresh unattended install.

I have tried to backup and restore registry keys and subkeys (though the registry size is 1.02mb)

you probably missed a key, or a config file something. I would re-install windows, then, installrite from http://www.epsilonsquared.com/ then run installrite, and make a snapshot, then install and configure the iutil, then run installrite again, and find what you have missed. by just looking at all the changed reg entries, and or files.

Thanks purewaveform! Infact, I have registered the enteries using inControl and Regsnap to give me the the settings. I found the key

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Creative Tech\Creative Surround Mixer 2\Settings]

getting changed for 4.1 speaker settings.

Problem is I have to copy all the keys, that is the reason the file is so big. It works but not completely.

Maybe if someone has the exact idea of the specific registry key, problem could be solved. Having big registry means you are also importing the environment of that particular windows setup. So chances are the settings won't work perfectly.

Whether it is regshot/regsnap/inctrl, all provide the keys changed in the registry. But the difficult part is when after fresh install the mixer is invoked and setting of 4.1/bass/trebel etc. are applied, there are almost 10,000 keys which are changed/added.

To specify which one for which setting is difficult! (Though I have achieved obtaining all settings except 4.1 speakers unattended).

I once did this for my SoundBlaster Audigy with RegShot. But all the registry setting I figured out did not change the settings of the control panel.

using RegShot, I took a "shot", then made a change in my settings (from Headphones to 5.1 spkr) then took 2nd shot. (I have an Audigy2ZS w/5.1)

I hope you/we can figure it out- I'd like to try this on a UACD, but I get the impression that the settings are based on a per-user basis (see .CDF and .SDF file entries under File Attributes in my log file):

C:\Documents and Settings\Nunya\Application Data\Creative\Calibrator\SPKR0000.SDF
and
C:\WINNT\{00000002-00000000-00000001-00001102-00000004-20021102}.CDF

Maybe copying these to your UACD locations?

I'll keep trying here also.

The promise of 30 minutes lasted almost 10hours and I copied and installed xp twice but still all settings are not taken.

Primarily I attribute it to ReadReg application completing task after final installation. You all must have seen this small box popping up at final reboot. What I think is at this particular time many settings are rewritten and this accounts for not settings not showing up in the mixer.

Registering the same registry file even leads to resetting the mixer settings at the default level.

I am still hunting, @k0pect8 I am ready to implement your points.

@SPKR0000.SDF file is not available on my PC. The directory structure in %userprofile% path for creative is there. But no file.

{00000002-00000000-00000001-00001102-00000004-20021102}.CDF or other *.cdf file is an active file and perhaps not linked to it.

Keep in mind my Soundcard is an Audigy2ZS, so our entries will be different, as well as diff user and PC (I know, you knew that already).

Have you tried saving your settings as "default" and going from there?

I believe (guess) that .SDF = "Speaker Data File" and .CDF = "Configuration Data File"

???

*Win Explorer lists the .CDF as a "Channel" file under 'Type' column.

Gonna take a look at my SB CD and see..... whatever.

My {00000002-00000000-00000001-00001102-00000004-20021102}.CDF has a .BAK file. (Backup)

Viewing many many reg entries, tracing the references, etc... leads me to believe that the speaker settings (for my Au2ZS) are saved at

C:\Documents and Settings\Nunya\Application Data\Creative\Calibrator

files:

SPKR0000.SDF

SPKR0001.SDF

The SPKR0000.SDF shows a modification change dated today (when I did another RegShot experiment) and the SPKR0001.SDF shows 9/1/04 (Don't know about that one- maybe my driver upgrade? If so, maybe SPKR0001 is the default?).

Both files were created at same time 3/16/2004 (according to Win Explorer).

Both files are gibberish when I open them.

Also- there are no Creative entries under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users... or C:\Documents and Settings\Default..... or any other- just my current user, which may mean SPKR0001 is for the Default settings for current user? <- (guessing)

I have a headache-

EDIT: maybe SPKR0000 is for one setting (my 5.1) and SPKR0001 is for my headphones? Or vice-versa? These are the only 2 spkr settings I have ever used/changed.

Just a thought.

In reference to this I find four files in system32 directory (your directory may be different because my mixer installation goes into system32 directory). Here I found four files

These very file names are there in binary form in the registry settings posted above. And the crossreference of files and registry works together. If both are there the settings can be included in uacd.

I am off to try this setting too!!

(Takes me to plus 30 installations to hack the creative mixer!!!)
