Let's see if it helps:

Boot your computer from a Windows 98/ME emergency disk and make a "format /mbr"

Hope it helps

PS: Caution! it is just a suggestion.

hmm, never tried XPeros solution, however you can use a windows xp cd enter the rescue console and enter fixmbr, it will fix the problem right up.

tried it, doesnt work , because the windows partitions have been formated with ntfs

ncheepool is on the right track.

I'd do all of the following in RC:

bootcfg /rebuild
fixboot
fixmbr

and check that there is a ntldr and ntdetect.com in C:\ .

copy ntldr, ntdetect.com and boot.ini to floppy. modify boot.ini to something like:

[boot loader]

timeout=3

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(0)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

you can then choose which partition you want to boot xp from. if you have more than one disk then you will need to add settings for disk(1) etc
