Ghettochild Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 I've managed to install Windows Media Player 10 into Longhorn. Here is my guide.Step1: Download the Windows Media Player 10 installer and save it to your hard disk. Step 2: Extract the contents of the installer using a program such as WinZip or WinRAR. Extract them to anywhere you wish. Step 3:Open the new folder containing the extracted files. Step 4: Select all the "INF files " except " WMP10.inf ". Right click and choose install. If asked to restart, click No. Step 5: Now you can right click on WMP10.INF and click InstallStep 6: Make a reg file like this below or download the reg file below_____________________________________________________________Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\Installed Versions]"wmp.dll"=hex:00,00,0a,00,3e,0e,00,00"wmploc.dll"=hex:00,00,0a,00,3e,0e,00,00"wmplayer.exe"=hex:00,00,0a,00,3e,0e,00,00____________________________________________________________Step 7: Run Windows Media Player. You should now see a screen welcoming you to Windows Media Player 10........Enjoy wmp10fix.reg
Ghettochild Posted March 20, 2005 Author Posted March 20, 2005 It should but you might have to change one little thing though. Go to regedit on your Xp system which has the wmp10 installed and go to regedit and go to ..... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\Installed Versions] "wmp.dll"=hex:00,00,0a,00,3e,0e,00,00"wmploc.dll"=hex:00,00,0a,00,3e,0e,00,00"wmplayer.exe"=hex:00,00,0a,00,3e,0e,00,00check to see if the binary data matches the one that i posted. If it is the same then just use the one that i posted, otherwise use the one that you see in your regedit. I haven't tested it with other languages. I will test it soon.
Ghettochild Posted March 20, 2005 Author Posted March 20, 2005 I was thinking too that this might work on Windows Server 2003 as well. I will test this too.
Blam-O! Posted May 21, 2005 Posted May 21, 2005 Yes, thank you! i was trying that myself but quickly gave up.Of course Longhorn 5048 now comes with WMP 10. But thanks for the info, have you tested it on Windows 2003 Server yet?
