Windows Icon Restore Program

Recommended Posts

folks:

And the winner is.... layout.zip!

If any of the above proggies should be added to 98seSP, it's this one. Slick, small and (apparently) a Microsoft product! It's amazing what you folks haul out of the ether. I've checked 'Properties' on the '.dll' (and with a hex editer) and it appears to be genuine. Whaddayou say Gape, does this one make the grade?

Great find ack-hh! :thumbup

i like and use WinTidy 2.0 which is a PCMag freeware prog, i like it cause it's not resident (or at least doesn't have to be)

it's kind of a follow up to iconlock mentioned above.

tested lots of these kind of things in the past and settled on this one.

eh, i just thought i'd mention it...

Danger, Will Robinson... Danger... :o

I like MS layout.dll too [use it all the time], but you may want to know about the bugs:

I'm using "layout" for five years or so, and I never have

experienced the problems mentioned above.

IF there should be a bug though, reinstalling isn't required IMHO.

Deleting the following registry value should help:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop\ViewView2

  • 2 years later...

Greetings everyone.

Is there any way I can activate the "Restore Desktop Icon Layout" option by the command line, or the only way is selecting the My Computer icon, right click and choose it?

Thank you for the help.

I have not witness bugs either

the trick is when you install new programs that add new icons to the desktop

you have to save the new layout again so it can remember the new icons also you

want to uncheck auto arrange other than that its a crucial tool.
