how about making the "control panel" a different color or something indecating u have unread PM's ? it was b4 i think?

u guys are really wierd, it takes a sec to look at the top of the page to see if u have a pm or not

also set your preferences to pop-up or email u when u get a pm.

You could script a plugin to use your serial port and attach it to a red strobe on top of your monitor. :)

You'd be better off using a parallel port for that, unless you feel like setting up a microcontroller to receive the serial data and translate it to a digital on/off for a light.

Sure, if you have a free EPP. I do not remember PC's coming with more then one. Moslty used for 'Printing'. :o RS232 is most uncommonly used and converting to UART is simple, also making your own controller to accomplish this is trivial.

But if you rather forfeit your EPP for this go ahead. :blink:

Personally I'd go the microcontroller route.... I've set one up already that temp controls four voltage-controlled fans - much easier to receive RPM, temp and other status data over serial.

And I agree, deciding to add stuff such as a strobe is indeed trivial, if you know what you're doing.

Slightly off topic, but seeing the amount of people that don't read stuff in order to work software, I'm not about to start believing they'll have any luck with hardware. Some people just shouldn't be screwing with that stuff.
