I recently purhcased a new ATI Sapphire 256MB 9550 graphics card to replace my 64MB Nvidia card. Ever since I installed this new graphics card I am having trouble viewing graphics in Word. I don't think its a problem with Word as it works great when displaying graphics in Word with my old Nvidia card.

I have tried re-installing my drivers with the latest ATI drivers directly from the ATI website and after many reboots I still have the problem.

I have attached an image to this post so you can see the problem. Graphics will only display ok with this card if I muck about the hardware acceleration settings in display properties - you need to disable all graphics acceleration to the card (this was an answer from a Microsoft forum with other users having the same problem!).

Any help or ideas on this would be much appreciated.

(Running:

Windows XP SP2,

MS Office XP SP3).

Basically because it was cheap! Seemed like a good spec and was a vast improvement on my old graphics card (or so I thought! lol!). Put it this way I can now play Doom 3 finally without any "jerking".

what's the problem? is there supposed to be an image inside that black box? is that what it is? otherwise i don't see any awkwardness

it's possible saphire has custom drivers you may need to install... i've heard of that from other manufacturers, so it might not be a bad idea to check out their site.

Could it be that your mobo is not accepting AGP8x?

Some times when your mobo is AGP4x you need to set it back to AGP2x to let AGP8x cards work. Also, are you sure that the voltage is supported well by your VGA card / mobo?

AGP 8x uses half the voltage of a AGP4x card (the old ones, talking about nVidia GF2 for example).

Can you play games with it?

There is meant to be an image inside the black box - with my new graphics card it doesn't show the image unless I turn the hardware acceleration off.

Possibly - I do have a AGP 4x motherboard. I can play games fine - I can easily play the likes of Doom 3 and Half Life 2 with no problems. Its just MS Word that it has trouble on. If I use powerpoint though to insert a picture or some clipart it displays the image fine!! I really don't understand how the same image won't display in Word but will display in Powerpoint! Very weird

quick job: uninstall/reinstall office, or repair it..

also it might be a reg entry messing it up, try cleaning up your reg, with reg progrmas..

Thanks for the advice XtremeMaC. I will try re-installing office then if that doesn't work I will try putting on the original drivers that came with my graphics card.
