Feltel Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Hi,I´m trying to update my XP SP2 Unattended CD but with KB885250 (SMB Update) I have no luck. After calling the Update with "windowsxp-kb885250-x86-deu.exe /integrate:c:\wxp" I get an error stating to check the Version of the Patch. It seems that the patch does not match Integrating the other Feb/2005 Updates was no problem. Is there any logging facility so that I can check whats going wrong?Here is my svcpack.inf:[CatalogHeader][Version]BuildNumber=2600MinorVersion=1MajorVersion=5Signature="$WINDOWS NT$"[SetupData]CatalogSubDir="\I386\svcpack"[SetupHotfixesToRun]KB885884.exe /q /n /zKB885626.exe /q /n /zKB886677.exe /q /n /zKB890831.exe /q /n /zKB890047.exe /q /n /zKB888113.exe /q /n /zKB867282.exe /q /n /zKB891781.exe /q /n /zKB873333.exe /q /n /zKB887472.exe /q /n /zKB888302.exe /q /n /zKB890175.exe /q /n /zKB887797.exe /q /n /zKB886185.exe /q /n /zKB885835.exe /q /n /zKB873339.exe /q /n /zKB885836.exe /q /n /zKB885894.exe /q /n /zKB884020.exe /q /n /z[ProductCatalogsToInstall]KB885884.catKB885626.catKB886677.catKB890831.catKB890047.catKB888113.catKB867282.catKB891781.catKB873333.catKB887472.catKB888302.catKB890175.catKB887797.catKB886185.catKB885835.catKB873339.catKB885836.catKB885894.catKB884020.catByeSebastian
argon007 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 There are many versions for this patch, did you download the wrong version?
Feltel Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 I checked the version of the patch a dozens of times. Regarding http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...77-978ec6b81b54 I should have the right version for XP Pro SP2. Strange
sintaxasn Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 hey guys, i'm also seeing a problem integrating this patch. All other patches have integrated fine, but this seems to be caught in a loop during the update process. It keeps activating and deactivating the active window (if that makes sense). Looking in task manager shows three processes relating to it:WindowsXP-KB885250-x86-ENU.exeUpdate.ExeKB885835.ExeKB885835 keeps disappearing and reappearing, which would explain the window jumping stuff. It's like Update.Exe is getting a bad errorcode from 885835 and rerunning it each time. Both 885250 and 885835 seem to contain updates to the file mrxsmb.sys, so i think there's some sort of conflict there.Any ideas?Cheers, Dan.
Frank_Sechrist Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I'm having the same problem with 885250.And, the new IE rollup, 867282, which replaces 834707 and 889293, also will not integrate. How do you un-integrate (new word) an older hotfix so you can integrate a newer one?
eirogge Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 i have the same problem with KB867282 and KB885250.i guess they wont integrate because of some files being ripped by nLite and/or slimdown batches as i can install them on a current sp2 system without any problem.
Feltel Posted February 9, 2005 Author Posted February 9, 2005 I dont use Nlite so I dont think it is the reason. I could apply KB867282 because I deleted the KB834707 call from svcpack.inf.
sintaxasn Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Ok, I got rid of my SVCPack.INF and SVCPack folder and rebuilt it with all patches. Same problem at the 885250 patch. Soooo...I have a fully up to date SVCPack.INF and SVCPack without the 885250 patch. I renamed both of these and ran the 885250 patch with /Integrate:xxxxx. So now I've got a new SVCPack and SVCPack.INF with just the files I need. I take the .CAT and .EXE files from SVCPack and put them into my old SVCPack folder. Then I edit my old SVCPack\HFINT.DAT file and add the following under the relevant headings:[FixesInstalled]KB885250[branches]KB885250=SP2GDRand add this section at the end[KB885250]mrxsmb.sysI dont know will this cause problems with the [KB885835] section, as it also has the same file, but I'm rebuilding now and dont seem to have any problems. Then I edit my old SVCPack.INF and add the following under the relevant headings:[setupHotfixesToRun]KB885250.exe /q /n /z[ProductCatalogsToInstall]KB885250.catAnd then obviously move the stuff back to the right locations and that solves my problem!
Frank_Sechrist Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I also do not use Nlite, so that is not the problem.I removed KB834707, and KB867282 integrated without problem.Remaining problem is KB885250. Guess I could install it from RunOnceEX.cmd, but the sucker should be integrated.Hope someone smarter than I figures this out.
eirogge Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 after deleting the svcpack.inf and reintegrating all hotfixes there was no problem with 885250.i made a clean install of sp2 to find out which hotfixes are really needed and came to the following list:KB891781KB890175KB888302KB888113KB886185KB885836KB885250KB873339KB873333KB867282KB890830no other updates show up on windows update as neccessary
