Elite K7S5A Processor

Thanks bart of borg

I had search the internet for an answer but I found so many different answers, I thought I'd ask for some one else's input.

The EliteGroup website CPU Support Table http://www.ecsusa.com/support/table_amd.html says 133MHz = 2100+ but it always says 133MHz (0.13µ) = 2600+ so I wasnt 100% sure which I could use.

Has anybody got any ideas if I can still get hold of a 2600+ and if so where (in the UK) I have looked and it seems like the Sempron has taken over this sort of size processor and as bart of borg says "Sempron is not a socket A CPU" so I cant use it.

Or shall I give up and buy a new motherboard and processor, not that I can really afford it :(

Ya stick away from ECS, everytime they come into my chop its the same thing.

"I woke up thismorning and my computer was off...and now it wont turn on"

I pop open the case, i see the ECS logo, and surly enough all the capisators are blown.

Stick with Asus, MSI, abit or even Foxconn

I've had this board for a couple of years now and I've had no problems with it. Apart from the on-board sound card being crap but then again aren't all on-board sound cards crap?

I just want to have a cost effective upgrade as the 1.2 I'm running at the moment isn't fast enough, and I'm short on cash.

I've looked at reviews of this board and I haven't found any bad words against this particular model, I have against other models but not this one. In fact I recall seeing a site saying it was the best board they've ever made.

  • 1 month later...

I have just received an email from www.maplin.co.uk

They are selling a 2600+ Motherboard Bundle which includes (amoungst other things) a Sempron 2600+ Processor and a Sempron Ready -Socket A motherboard, but you guys have told me Sempron isnt socket A.

2600+ Motherboard Bundle

So will a Sempron work in socket A?

Will it work on my motherboard the K7S5A?

Look forward to hearing from some one on this matter as I'm still looking to upgrade!

Your board can accept Socket A up to 2600+.

Sempron is not a socket A CPU

The first Sempron CPUs are for socket A, later based on the AMD 64 cpu sockets...

okay, to confirm that, it´s model 8 that fit socket A ;)

To bad, there is no info if a Sempron is supported. But, like other people are telling you, go for a good motherboard this time, go for ASUS or ABIT for example ;).
