Zup peeps,

I just purchased a linksys wireless G router and would like to know what is the best way to protect my network from snooping neighbors! :)

The easiest thing I could figure out was just to allow the MAC address of my PC and Laptop to connect to network. Is that enough? I couldnt figure out all that WEP WAP WIP WOP WUP stuff! :)

Any tips???

Thanks,

:thumbup

Mac authentication would prevent someone from connecting to your network but would not prevent him/her from sniffing packets. You'd need WEP or WPA for that, both are methods of encryption.

Enable 128 bit WEP or WPA if all hardware supports it

Turn on MAC authentication

Disable SSID broadcasting

There's tons of stuff written about this on the net. Google is your friend.

Sorry, to clarify, WEP or WPA would still allow your neighbors to sniff packets only difference is they're encrypted (not plain text).

Basically, if someone really, really, really wants into your network...he will.

if your not runing a bussines on your wlan, mac filtering is everything you need. I don't see the point of useing wep wpa when it's no problem to braek them with simple programs on the web and the encryption slows your connection down :}

Aha and don't broadcast your ssid :yes:

Unfortunetly mac filtering and ssid broadcast can also be broken :D:D
