cumminbk Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I agree with Sonic these updates should be included in your list HULK. I have all the updates you have listed save for GDI+, Melicious Virus Tool, and the one that fixes XP screwing up after SP2 installs (I have my SP2 slipstreamed and GDI+ and Virus Tool i apply through the registry. So i have a total of 45 hotfixes i install. @Incroyable HULK:You can add these hotfixes in non-critical section ...(Found by HFChkNet Protect)* KB893357-v2, Allow to use WPA2 (wifi security mode) in Windows XP.* KB906569-v2, New MSConfig, with a new tab "Utils" (to launch certain .cpl and more).* KB889527-v3, Fix a bug in Windows Firewall when ICMP is authorized and keep blocked.

boooggy Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 @m1m1m1m101some of the wmp updates u posted are not needed....they were overseeded by few from the ones u posted.
m1m1m1m101 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 boooggyI would like to know which one. In KB I don't find replacement info, but I can missed something.
Sonic Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I think we have to separe Windows Media updates from Windows core updates ...
m1m1m1m101 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 sonicAt first page writed:"MS WINDOWS XP PRO SP2 - (35) WITH Windows Media Player 10 & MSN Messenger 7 installed"Windows media player and service installed together with windows xp.Updates for windows media may be placed in NON-CRITICAL section, and so, they whould be placed separated from windows core updates.
boooggy Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 on each update somewhere on the page is the files beeing updated. so look there.
m1m1m1m101 Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 For Windows Media:KB907658 remove KB892313 (new Wmp.dll 07-Sep-2005 11:07 10.0.0.3955 5,533,696)KB893241 remove KB885353 (new Wmnetmgr.dll 26-Apr-2005 11:40 10.0.0.3921 1,028,096)KB888656 remove KB898549 (new Wmvcore.dll 30-Apr-2005 21:23 10.0.0.3923 2,374,392)Previous post with list of hotfix edited.
cumminbk Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 I dont think hotfixes that need additional testing and are not "Stable" should be added to the hotfix list. Most of the fixes you list m1m1m1m101 are only to address particular problems with windows media player 10 or windows. If you want to add windows media player 10 hotfixes i have only found two fixes that are "offical/stable" fixes that need no more testing.KB891122http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891122/KB892313http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=892313&SD=techThis updates windows media player to build .3901
boooggy Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 (edited) u will excuse me but that 2 upadtes u posted are overseded already.....and current version of wmp 10 is 3955....and KB888656 remove KB898549 (new Wmvcore.dll 30-Apr-2005 21:23 10.0.0.3923 2,374,392)is alos overseeded by kb904415but i see u guys messed up wmp 10 updates so i will post the list with all needed wmp 10 hotfixes:windowsmedia10-kb888656-x86-global-enu.exewindowsmedia10-kb895316-x86-enu.exewindowsmedia10-kb896096-x86-enu.exewindowsmedia10-kb896097-x86-enu.exewindowsmedia10-kb900399-x86-intl.exewindowsmedia10-kb902344-x86-intl.exewindowsmedia10-kb904415-x86-intl.exewindowsmedia10-kb904555-x86-intl.exewindowsmedia10-kb907658-x86-intl.exeWindowsMedia10-KB910393-x86-ENU.exe Edited December 5, 2005 by boooggy
cumminbk Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Yea the hotfixes i listed are only the ones that do not need additional testing. The hotfixes you have listed need additinal testing, personal i dont want to install unstable hotfixes. There are dozens of other windows updates also availible that could be placed on the list, (like those inlcuded in Ryan's back) that address certain problems and are still in testing stages. We dont want all those hotfixes listed on this list do we? Just official hotfixes that would be seen on windows update was what i though this post was originally about. Also boooggy it seems that some of your fixes listed dont even have knowledge base articles...And this hotfix (WindowsMedia10-KB910393-x86-ENU.exe) is for windows Media center not XP...Cheers
boooggy Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 the ones u post like i said were oversedded.KB891122 is windows media format dist and contains the SAME files from wmp 10 setup pack.and all updates i posted are official not unstable hotfixes. (i know that unofficial hotfixes cant be downloaded from m$ they have to be requested to Microsoft support)also all posted above has knowledge base articles.here are the links:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;888656http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;895316http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;896096http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;896097http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;900399http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;902344http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;904415http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;904555http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;907658ok i agree that KB910393 is for media center but as u know media center is still windows xp.........
cumminbk Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Yes i know there are hotfixes that are unoffical that you can only get by request but im talking about hotfixes that have this in the knowledge base articleA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix. There are many hotfixes that may still need additional testing. some of these WMP10 hotfixes are the same way and i dont think they should be placed on the update page. Here is an example of a hotfix that has the above quote in the KB article. There are many others.KB907865http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;907865Yea i agree KB891122 is not a update needed for the current WMP10 install
m1m1m1m101 Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 cumminbk If a hotfix has lable "not stable" this doesn't display that there is a lot of bug's or anythingelse, this only mean that there was no fully completed official process testing of hotfix. Insidemicrosoft they themselves use this hotfixes and this hotfixes also included in ryanvm pack. Ithink microsoft never be public it, only include in new build. Moreover for wmp exist a lot of not stable hotfixes and only this one, that I writed, have thepublic link for download. This mean that many people request in microsoft for this hotfix andmany people needed in that.boooggy I was surprised, but where do you get .3955 version of wmp? All, that i can find at download center is .3802.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results...media+player+10From http://www.microsoft.com/ this is a link to downloadhttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...d/download.aspx,but there is no version info, only size: 11,638 KB. The size of .3802 is 12456 KB. Not seemslike a new build. As concerning 904415, I saw it before, but ignore it because of "applies to" section (only Microsoft Windows Media Format 9.5 SDK). Now i see that it's also need. And about 888656, I don't think you right. What's with this file:30-Apr-2005 21:23 10.0.0.3923 900,856 Wmvdmod.dll. KB896096 (Qasf.dll), 896097 (Wmasf.dll). Hm, i thought before that wm format sdk hotfixesdoesn't needed for wmp. Seems like i made a mistake. I'll check it.904415, 896096, 896097, 900399, 902344, 904415, 904555 I'll see this hotfix.KB910393 it's only for Media Center Edition 2005, and don't see file Wmploc.dll in last hotfix. It's really needed for xp sp2?cumminbk As I wrote before there is no matter to worry about correct work of this hotfix (so as far asit appliable to microsoft). In ryanvm pack really many hotfix, but only small part of themhas a link for public download, and i would like to see this hotfix in list:) If ms public a link to "unstable" hotfix there is a really reason exist. I don't relate toms updater good, because this is only a program, possible with it's own bug's and I don'twant to entrust security to it. If you want, why do you not simple use it?boooggy About 891122, where do you get the list of wmp 10 files? If wmp 10 contain all this filewhy "applies to" section contain wmp 10? Are you check the file dates? Unofficial microsoft hotfix, heh I think this no matter to discuss this subject. Thenwe can call winxp unstable ms product and what then you will not use it?And don't right. The hotfixes you posted are also not stable! For exaple see 888656:"A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correctthe problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencingthis specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are notseverely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next release thatcontains this hotfix. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtainthe hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers andinformation about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support"The download link was added after KB article was published. I post such hotfixes.About 910393 again: the files it updates not included in winxpsp2, only media center (disk 2)cumminbk"i agree KB891122 is not a update needed for the current WMP10 install"But i don't agree .So many events for short time
boooggy Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 i got version 3955 after installing 907658.and even KB910393 is for media center (which is also windows xp...), it also updates a file called wmploc.dll which is included in wmp10 for windows xp.
