baggers02
Hi,Has anyone else had problems with their speedtouch modem after installing xp sp2.Since installing this i have to unplug the modem and plug it back in again to get the modem to work. On a boot it is just not seen.Worked fine before sp2. That will teach me!Any ideas?

baggers02
Sorry for the title! Considering myself told!Yes, have latest drivers from speedtouch, still the same.Really starting to think its motherboard & SP2 related as have tried every possible software solution i can think of. Its MSI 6738, also considering putting modem in powered hub. I understand the modem draws the max 500ma from the port so thinking do not use power from motherboard but the powered hub, does this sound sensible? Its very strange as until SP2 all ok but now nothing but problems.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. nolookingca
I've had the same problem with an SpeedStream ADSL modem from Sympatico on more than one occasion. It's connected via the ethernet port, so it might be the device type.

Jito463
Ack. I always shudder when I see the words USB and MODEM uttered in the same sentence.*shudders*
baggers02
Further to this all.I have decided the problem lies in my motherboard and its VIA chipset and the power being drawn by the modem. An external powered hub solves the prooblem. It appears that as the modem draws 500ma some motherboard and chipsets do not fully allow this and an safe guard kicks in. This would explain why at boot it just does not work, with everything cold this is when it draws most current.Hope this helps.
