gotnho Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Hi all, i know that using virtual PC or vmware i can test out my images to error but i just wondering are you guys using any other methods cuz it take quite a long time for virtual pc to work and just to test through the whole thing. If there are better way can you guys show me? thanks.
glent Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 testing an iso of virtual pc only takes aorund 25 mins form start to finsh for me try allocating some more RAM if possible
sleepnmojo Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 I'd recommend trying VMWare. It appears to run faster than VPC.
gotnho Posted August 28, 2004 Author Posted August 28, 2004 what's the recommended amount of ram? currently i set it at 128 but b4 i set it at ~ 200 and it always froze. My comp have 512 MB or ram. i tried vmware but still froze anyway for some unknown reason. Also i dont have another rig to test it on. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I just wanted to know what else people are using to test their unattend cd.
urie Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I also only have 512mb of ram and a 966mhz pentium III i found that using a cd rewitable rather than the iso file speeds things up for me, in VMWare
Coolsights2000 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I use a second hard drive running fat32 cause NTFS limits my playingI have a basic setup that I copy to the second hard drive.. but first I delete the folders... don't delete the root cause it will not boot up! just get rid of the hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys and any extra files that programs drop there...I pull the controlling drive it is in a moble dock...now when I boot up the second drive is the main drive full steam...I have the test files on the D:\ parition from there is is just test and go...you don't have to run all the installed program unless that are reguired for you test...With this setup I'm not burn CD's or loading from CD's no ISO Just running from the C: and D: drive....I put the runOnceEX on the D:\drive I install it then reboot and away I go...I already have the windows SP2 corp pro with drivers done just have to test all the extra programs... NO VM needed.... cause the second drive is the VM... Mac!
argon007 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I would like to recommend trying the VMWare to test the unattended xp cd.
