[HOWTO] Adaptec ASPI Integration

I don't know if anyone will use this but I decided to integrate the Adaptec ASPI v4.71.2 drivers into my Windows XP installation. This will allow you to run programs like VCDEasy, DDump and other CD related programs that require an ASPI layer to be installed.

Follow these steps to integrate ASPI into your installation:

1. Add the following to the end of DOSNET.INF:

d1,winaspi.dll
d1,wowpost.exe
d1,wnaspi32.dll
d1,aspi32.sys

2. Add the following to the end of TXTSETUP.SIF:

[SourceDisksFiles]
winaspi.dll = 1,,,,,,,5,0,0
wowpost.exe = 1,,,,,,,5,0,0
wnaspi32.dll = 1,,,,,,,2,0,0
aspi32.sys = 1,,,,,,,4,0,0

3. Add the following to the end of HIVESYS.INF:

HKLM,SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASPI32,ErrorControl,0x00010001,0x00000001
HKLM,SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASPI32,Start,0x00010001,0x00000001
HKLM,SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASPI32,Type,0x00010001,0x00000001
HKLM,SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASPI32\Parameters,ExcludeMiniPorts,0x00000000,""

4. Download the attached ASPI.ZIP file and extract it to your I386 directory.

Done.

ePSXe (PSX emulator) needs them too

edit: a question, would this mess with nLite shrinkage?? (i have read somewhere in the forum that integrating SATA drivers yes...)

All I have ever done is add the nero version of WNASPI32.DLL to

$OEM$\$$\System32

and CDR-Win has run ok for me

@SiMoNsAyS: Nup. Won't screw with nLite at all. I remove pretty much everything using nLite and this works flawlessly.

@benners: My method does a true slipstream... Yours just copies files. Some programs will require the other files and the registry entries. Also, there is a difference between Nero ASPI and Adaptec ASPI and some programs will require the Adaptec one.

@Diabolical82: The quotes are only required if there is a space contained in the string.

None of those have spaces so the quotes are not needed.

man this is going to be sad if i have to hook up my old dialup (should still be active till the end of the month) to download these files...... when we just got satellite internet..... which apparently BLOWS...

Hmm... strange... It still works for me... I've also had some mates try it and it works.

i just connected to my old earthlink dialup...... worked just fine.....

which proves it's this filthy new satellite internet we have....but we just moved and theres no cable here... so it's our only broadband choice....

i've noticed many things not working as they should.....any ideas? perhaps a proxy... but i don't know how you'd do that windows-wide and not just for a browser....

guess this might need it's own topic in another forum....thanks for the response though rave. B)
