Registry Tweaks, Part-1

Recommended Posts

@Alanoll: Sorry, but I can't take grant for something that isn't mine :)

That file doesn't belong to me .... Where did u get it ? If it's from this forum the post contains the name of the person so you should find the person who really done that file.

EDIT: If u take a look at that file it's not that great :(. Some of the registry tweaks are 5-6 times !!!! And u can't folow it. It's a mess ....

@ShakeNotStirr: I'm still working on my reg file, but in a few days i think I'll post it in here. :D

If you use a large LCD monitor with high resolution, here is how to set DPI to 120 (125%). It's a lot, but it works, and thankfully they are all HKLM keys!

;-----Set DPI to 120-----

I just wish I could get "large fonts" to lock in. Anyone have any tips? If I apply the following reg edits (too much to list, so see attachment) at T-12, it doesn't stick. Applying it afterward from the desktop works, but then it doesn't apply to all users. :( The same goes for "large mouse pointer" -- doesn't work during install, but DOES work afterwards. Maybe it's because of those hex keys...

BTW, what is this Spyware Alexa anyways??? Just put into mine cause other ppl had it...

If you have ever opened up IE and clicked on Tools and seen the link there to "Show Related Links", that's what it's referring to, the "tweak" removes that option and disables it.

*Edit* IF anyone has a complete listing of all the tweaks, including the new ones to change the features of XP SP2 listed here somewhere can they please make a new thread and have this one locked that shows what all the tweaks are in one listing or file for download? Please? I have searched through about 3/4 of these pages and have since gotten lost in all the listings as to what everything does. There is just too much information here scattered out, some of it undocumented as to what to change to do different things, such as the features that have like 3 or 4 different switches to them and what each switch is. If there is a site that has all this explained in detail that would be great as well.

Anyone know the registry tweak to:

"Show Small Icons In Start Menu"

For classic start meun.

BTW these are for the new start menu not the classic start menu:

"Start_LargeMFUIcons"=dword:00000000
"Start_MinMFU"=dword:0000000a

Anyone know how to make Local Area Connection "Show icon in notification area when connected"?

And speaking of Local Area Connection. How does one have these unchecked by defuault:

Client for Microsoft Networks

File And Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networks

QoS Packet Scheduler

this has probably been mentioned hundreds of times before, but the best way to find elusive regkey options is to get a program like RegSnap. take a snapshot, change the settings to how you want them, take another snapshot. compare the two and find the keys you want in the reg file it generates.

voila.

Um yea I'll that. ;)

Well I could only figure out two so far. Nothing seems to be chaning in the registry when I change start menu. :(

Anyways heres a good one. :)

Hello everyone! I'm new to this thread.

I would like to know the settings for the taskbar as I'm making an unattended WinXP instalation cd.

I've checked the forums but had no luck on finding it so I've posted this. Sorry if it is already discussed.

At every Windows Xp or 2000 computer, I see the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I wish to have it on the top of the screen as a default setting for my pc for every user when I use it in conjunction with the unattended install of WinXP.

I've checked it out with REGSHOT but of course, it only shows it for the current user settings.

Do any of you know how to this?

Thank you in advance!

Anyone have any tips regarding my "Large Fonts" problem? (see my post above). This is driving me crazy -- applying those reg tweaks from the desktop works, but not from within my tweaks.reg file.

Maybe it's because something happens after the tweaks.reg, and it gets reset? (video drivers, resolution, something). Or maybe there is a special trick with those "hex" tweaks.

Please help! :}

Then simply apply after everything else. Like I do. I simply place a nice little shortcut on my desktop that I run after windows, appz, registry keys etc. are done. After I restart I run the shortcut. Which replyes all my registry settings and deleted unwanted shortcuts etc. Or you could just put it on run once. ;)

At least thats how I am doing it.

When you installing WinXP it asks for a username which becomes the main account with admin privillages. How can u remove this account (and the guest one also) and only show the actual Admin login account only?

Using a reg tweak or whatever else..

Thanks :0)
