GillouStyle03 Posted June 20, 2004 Author Posted June 20, 2004 "using a xp pro retail product key on a volume license media"What does that mean? :-/
GillouStyle03 Posted June 20, 2004 Author Posted June 20, 2004 By the way, i have just figured out that i have a Corporate version of Windows XP pro Sp1.what serial should i use?wyattXP; im gonna try to add UnattendSwitch=Yes.You should use the pro switchBut you cannot ask for a key on MSFNPlz read the rules in my signature|Drew| hey i didnt mean to Ask for a key.. But im asking what "kind" of key should i be using, since My VALID XP PRO one is not working apparently :-/
MCT Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 if it truely in fact isnt working, call microsoft and get a new key, or make sure u have it typed correctlyregards
homiebrah Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 If I'm not mistaken, Corp keys have a PID of 640. Something else you can check is the setupp.ini file in the \i386 directory of the XP CD. Look at the PID. It will identify the type of key you need to use.
GillouStyle03 Posted June 20, 2004 Author Posted June 20, 2004 Ok guys i found what is wrong.the Windows XP PRO SP1 files i used come from a CORPORATE version; so my XP pro key was not working. Thanks for all.by the way, do the serial in winnt.sif must be between " " ?
wyattXP Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 nope, it doesnt have to but it does need the dashes
GillouStyle03 Posted June 20, 2004 Author Posted June 20, 2004 ok.thanks.I have one last question, i would like to silently update windows sp1 with the most important updates (against sasser, and all that..) is there a .zip file of all the updates .exe somewhere? Thanks in advance
00buck Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Make sure that your winnt.sif is saved as .sif. If you edit it in notepad it will have a .txt added to it (winnt.sif.txt) and if extensions are hidden you will not see it.

However, it does not include all known hotfixes/updates for XP SP1. My advice would be to download the rollup, run it, reboot, then run through Windows Update to see what was missed. Here is a list of know hotfixes, as of May 04, put together by GreenMachine:http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/XPCREATE/current.htmTidbit on getting these updates installed unattended:http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/installhotfixes.htm
GillouStyle03 Posted June 20, 2004 Author Posted June 20, 2004 thanks omiebrah; i'll take a look at it as soon as i get some rest (20hours straight awake now... lol)
homiebrah Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 No sweat. I think I pulled an all weekender when I first started messing with unattended installs. Fried a lot of CD-Rs before getting some RWs.
MCT Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 I think I pulled an all weekender when I first started messing with unattended installs. Fried a lot of CD-Rs before getting some RWs.i agree, its addicting why didnt u use vmware/virtual pc regards
homiebrah Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 Really didn't feel like it. Reformatting a hard drive six times a day does not bother me. How the hell else can we learn? I only use Virtual PC at work on our Enterprise network, preparing our XP client migration. My home PC was bought was research and destruction.
GeoTrail Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 I have a similar problem.I'm using Corporate Pro edition and I have quad-.. checked my typed serial.I'm using Virtual PC (I love MS) Anyways, I see I forgot to add the UnattendSwitch=Yes switch. And just to clarify, the winnt.sif file goes in the I386 folder on the CD, right?
