XP Vol Lic Unattned

Recommended Posts

I have a volume license copy of Windows XP Pro.

I read the XP unattended install guide at unattended.msfn.org

The problem is, when ever i start steup it never uses the winnt.sif file!

The CD has a volume label of ENT not OEM if that helps.

I think that since it is an enterprise disk not an oem disk that

that is the problem but i'm not entirely sure.

If some one could enlighten me please do.

I too used a genuine volume license edition of XP Pro, and like yours, the CD name is WXPVOL_EN

I followed an earlier version of Aarons Guide and my unattended ran fine...

I have since switched my method to TechTypes UpdateXP, which I personally found to be much easier to understand and more importantly, control, customize and update when new fixes come out...

I have never had the problem you are describing...

Seems likely therfor, that there is a typo, or some other mistake, somewhere, somehow...

I trust you have correctly named the file WINNT.SIF and not WINNT.SIF.TXT, but you can't see the .txt extension as you have your computer set to 'hide known file extensions'...

That would be one cause of it not running...

other than that, I would suggest you attach your winnt.sif file to your next post so others may download it and study it for potential errors.... (or simply post the contents of it as text)

Rest assured, the unattended does work with a volume license edition...

When setup starts it does it's usual stuff, then says reading setup information...

THEN THE DARN THING STARTS A NORMAL ATTENDED SETUP!!!

The disc is a enterprise edition volume license disc.

Service pack 1a was slipstreamed to it as part of making the unattended disc.

Here is my winnt.sif (located inside the I386 folder on the cd)

Once again, we need more info...

Post it's contents and someone will take a look...

An idea of what it's doing, or not doing, would also be helpful...

Do you get an error message ? or does it just not run ? or.... ?
