In your links I see that My Book has hardware encryption and Essential doesn't. But does My Book Essential have it? I don't want any encryption, I don't have secret files. Regarding the trick of removing the disk from the box, it's something I've always thought about, but manufacturers have also thought that we can do it. So they are putting hard drives with less cache memory than SATA ones. For example, I have tested it with Toshiba Canvio Edited Friday at 01:22 AM by Cixert

D.Draker Posted Friday at 09:57 AM Posted Friday at 09:57 AM I compared the extracted WD HDD from My booksplastic box, which I wrote about before, and it's identical to the famous Red Series (NAS drives). WD80EFZZ, ir was still produced, at least in 2022. The only difference is the label, mine is white, without the red stripes. It's 100% made by Hitachi. 2

Right, it looks absolutely different from the standard WD Red platform that they produce themselves. I own a WD40EFRX, I can tell. This one is indeed made by Hitachi, just look at the air breather.
