Sampei.Nihira Posted December 24, 2024 Author Posted December 24, 2024 I did the MotionMark 1.3.1 test in Edge with 3 extensions: AdGuard AdBlocker = 802.02 uBlock Origin Lite + Ping Blocker = 709.25 uBlock Origin = 704.80 uBlock Origin is the extension that is last. Little difference, with the 3 extensions, to the Speedometer 3.0 test. So it seems that AG v.5.x increases the performance of the graphics system of my Chromium-based browser. 1
Sampei.Nihira Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 @NotHereToPlayGames Have you ever done Spectre and Meltdown test to see if your processor has very good performance? I remember that in some PCs disabling the patches allowed for better performance. https://www.grc.com/inspectre.htm
NotHereToPlayGames Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I've never done before-and-after comparisons, but I do DISABLE Spectre/Meltdown "preventions" on my machines. And when Microsoft or Google or Apple or Mozilla or whomever else is "responsible" for 'patching' against these "vulnerabilities", I make absolute certain to NOT INSTALL THEM! "To each their own", of course. I cannot remember the name of the program that DISABLES these "preventions", but I know I run one at home to intentionally DISABLE Spectre/Meltdown "prevention".
NotHereToPlayGames Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Not for everyone, of course. NET SAVVY, know what to click, where to click, when to click, et cetera. I really DO NOT SUPPORT the whole ideology of somebody else (Microsft "updates", browser "patches", etc) playing the role of Nanny State all in the "guise" of 'security'.
Sampei.Nihira Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 (edited) The software at the link above allows, when possible of course, the disabling of patches........................................ Another possibility the use of the Power Plan Ultimate. For verification: Command Prompt powercfg /list Edited January 15 by Sampei.Nihira
Sampei.Nihira Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Betterfox would make Firefox faster than unmodified Firefox. Yokoffing on its website would highlight an old test that improves speed by 31%. I have also noticed, visually, this improvement.
NotHereToPlayGames Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) That OLD TEST that cites 31% is over two years old according to the link where it compares some popular forks. I compared these "fasterfox" and "betterfox" user.js Placebo Effects just a month or two ago in IceCat v115 and COULD NOT CONFIRM any such performance increase. Nowhere near 31%. However, IceCat is based on v115 and I have no doubt that anything v128 or higher would give better results. Due to embedded telemetry, IceCat is the only Mozilla Fork I would ever consider using. I have been waiting for a v128 but it is still not here last I checked. "To each their own." 32 minutes ago, Sampei.Nihira said: visually You know better than that. Your former professor colleagues would be disappointed. Without a before and after quantifiable and REPEATABLE test, then any performance increase is nothing more than Placebo Effect. Sorry, that's just SCIENTIFIC, keep your "vision" and your "gut" out of the equation. Edited January 22 by NotHereToPlayGames
Sampei.Nihira Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 (edited) I think I wrote, even visually. I have already demonstrated in this thread that my Firefox is faster than my Edge. But it is difficult to do a before/after test without Betterfox because there are the necessary (for me) browser updates that might introduce a speed increase. Another variable is the presence of an adblock extension (essential in my opinion) that could bring speed improvements in Firefox but not in Edge. And these extensions would be different because with Edge I would test with AdGuard Adbocker and with Firefox with uBlock Origin. As you see too many variables, but maybe after June 2025............ P.S. I put the smiley face because many of my former professorial colleagues are now retired colleagues. Many of the new ones I don't even know.....but I think that's the problem for everyone like me. Only once did I get into college, but too many memories, even bad ones, but it seems strange then as time goes by you realize that even those were necessary, I would get tears in my eyes. I don't think I will return there spontaneously, different is the case if someone calls me. But I think this possibility will become rarer and rarer as time goes on. Edited January 22 by Sampei.Nihira

I could not. But my only reference was IceCat v115 versus Chromium v122. Which wasn't really a fair comparison.
